Door Prizes

Amber, on March 7, 2014 at 1:42 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 7

I read on a blog about a bride doing door prize drawings at her reception. Is that weird? I though it kinda sounded like something fun for the guests to look forward to. Yes or no?

I think it would be fun unless you had to pay to get in the draw.

It's not my taste ... as long as you don't have to pay to do it, and depending on the prizes, i don't see anything wrong with it?

I'm doing something kinda like that.

Each table is going to have a book on it. The books are special to my FH and I, something we want to share with our family. These books also double as table markers so people know which table they are at. (I'm assigning people tables but not specific seats.)

Before hand I'm going to put a post-it-note or something like that under one chair at each table. During the reception I'll annouce that whoever has the post-it-note under their chair gets to take the book home with them.

I think it's fine to do a door prize as long as it's simple and something people will enjoy. I wouldn't want to have tickets or anything though. One more thing to keep track of and have people to. Something like what I'm doing, where a random person at each table is picked, I think is best.

Oh no, definitely no money from the guests would be involved.

A door prize could be fun but just beware that a 50/50 draw or something requiring people paying money may require a special charity or gambling license. That would be one of those things that depends on where you live I guess.

I think it would be ok. Depends what the prize is? It would be weird if the prize wasn't related to anything if you get what I'm saying.
