Donuts tower instead of traditional cake?

dexlovely, on May 27, 2015 at 12:06 PM Posted in Planning 0 20

I want to have a donuts tower for our wedding instead of traditional cake. My reasons are because I LOVEEE donuts. I'm thinking of having mainly glazed donuts and boston cream pie donuts, because those are our favorite donut flavors. So my questions are if you were a guest, would it be weird if there was no cake and we provide donuts instead. And I am definitely having at least 2 different flavors(glazed and boston cream pie) should I get more flavors? If yes, how many?

I love when weddings are non traditional in any way. so i think a donuts tower would be awesome! i also think most people like glaze so having just those two flavors would be good

I would love a donut tower at a wedding. If I were you I would do just one more flavor to add one last option for guests but otherwise, go for it!

It would only sit out for maybe couple hours, just like any wedding cake would be. I would probably have one of my family pick it up the morning of the wedding... I don't think it would go stale, at least hopefully not.. Thanks ladies, it makes me feel better about my choices of having just donuts, instead of a cake..

2 donuts is enough kind of donuts. Just avoid powdered sugar; it's the messiest food in the known universe.

Can you add some "cake" donuts to appease the cake lovers? The kind that are a little more dense?

I'm guessing it's also a good way to save some money. I'd go for it, especially since you love them!

We're doing donuts!! For some reason I had my mind set on it from the beginning. We decided to also do cupcakes so people who are more "cake" people can still have something.

We ordered ours through an amazing bakery and they will drop them off the afternoon of the wedding and set it all up.

You could do some "regular" donuts but also do something like a Croquembouche. They are the same thing as profiteroles. I have made them for a # of clients. In Europe they are often served at weddings. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Croquembouche

We had doughnuts for the groom's cake and cupcake tower instead of a regular cake. Everyone loved the doughnuts! Especially the maple bacon ones.

I am absolutely obsessed with you. I love (and miss!) donuts, so I think this is such a fun idea!! I personally got a cake to be traditional, but every vendor basically said most of the cake goes to waste. Your wedding should have little touches that are "you" so why not the dessert choice! I assume some people will be like uh wheres the cake, but most will find it fun and different.

As a guest, I would be SO happy if I got a donut instead of cake!! This is a great idea.

I'm thinking of doing donuts too... FH is a cop, so I bet people would get a good chuckle out of it ; )

Make them white, fluffy creme filled, instead of Boston, and my Mother will seek you out and eat half of them. LOL!

I always said I was going to have a coffeecake wedding cake, because I didn't like icing. I ended up with a standard cake, anyway, because it was included int he venue pricing. Now I wish I had gone for coffee cake. ..

I like donuts haha. What if you offered different flavors of milk as a side? I went to a cake tasting where they had strawberry, chocolate and regular milk and it was a cute touch.

Well I'm going to be the dissident... I love donuts but would be sad if I went to a wedding and there wasn't cake! Donuts are not a substitute for delicious wedding cake. Sorry Smiley smile

I love chocolate frosted sprinkle donuts. So I would be happy if you had those! All kidding aside, I think it's a fun touch, so I say go for it. Now I want a donut...
