Donuts as favors?

sanders4ever, on November 11, 2016 at 1:59 PM Posted in Planning 0 33

I originally wanted a candy bar, with all our favorite candies, but now I'm thinking donuts. FH and I always stop and get donuts when we go on a road trip or have to get up early to be somewhere on the weekend. Has anyone done donuts as favors? Did you display the donuts and have each guest choose one? Or did you have them all packaged up and ready to go? I was thinking of putting them with our cake table and having them on a three tier stand and then putting little baggies for people to put them in. What do you think?

I did donoughts and my guests loved them. The bakery packaged them individually and they were brought out when the cake and coffee was served. We had two different flavors and or ordered 1.5 per person. We had 5 left over.

I'm thinking of doing doughnut favors too! If I go this route, I will opt to have them packaged individually and have them placed on a table that my guests will walk by as they leave the venue rather than have them out with the other desserts.

I also think this would be more cost effective than buying pounds and pounds of candy.

We had donuts instead of cake from a donut shop I've been going to since I was a kid. Everyone loved them! Way cheaper than cake (we don't really like cake anyway) and I got way too many hahah But guests took extra home with them and we donated the rest of the extras to a local church who was going to use them for Sunday's service.

Here's our donut table. We also did some of our engagement photos at the donut shop so we added those to the table.

I think I would love the bride and groom forever if at the end of the night I was told "there's donuts".

OMG! My mother would take all the glazed doughnuts and run out to her car. LOL!

Would it be too much though in addition to having our four tier cake with a sheet cake on the side...

I think we'll probably do individually packaged, but I wanted to have them on the cake table because our cake table is 6.5 long our cake will look weird being the only thing on it.

If you're already having a cake, I might just do some donut holes and maybe 1 kind of donut and I wouldn't get a whole lot. I think people will forget them or not even know they're there if they are not on their place setting, which you could easily set them there if you do individual. But you might find that people don't eat your cake. Some people will probably eat both but edible favors I tend to notice get eaten right then and there so they may get their sweet fix before the cake is even cut.

Do you think people would take them if it was one donut individually packaged and then the DJ can announce after we cut the cake and eat it that they are there and available to take

I was thinking about donuts also. FH is a delivery driver for the company that bakes donuts for Dunkin. He once delivered 1000 donuts to a wedding that were used for a food fight. Seems awful to waste a good donut! Smiley smile

My only worry now is that people won't eat the cake if I give donuts as favors and I don't want to be left with tons and tons of extra cake

I have been wondering as well about doing donuts in addition to cake. I think I like the idea of having them as more of a favor. Maybe I'm off base here, but I want lots of varieties so people can choose. I guess if I label them well, I could still package them up and people could still choose? But I was already planning apple butter as a favor. So 2 edible favors might be a bit much. But FH and I have our favorite local donut shop so I thought it would be a nice touch. I think I wouldn't order more than 1.5/person.

@allyson yeah I agree with different flavors we have a gourmet donut shop locally called Hurts Donuts that does a bunch of different toppings and stuff that I really love so I was think like 4 different flavors labeled what they are. I'm just worried no one would eat our cake then. My parent said they would be fine with some extra cake but not that much if no one decides to eat it!

I'd package them up so they can snack on them later on! Awesome idea!

I live in NC (home of Krispy Kreme) and I would fuck up some donuts at a wedding regardless of when and how they're served.

That being said, if you're having cake I think it would be really cute to have them boxed up as favors!
