Don’t want to put others at risk!

Connie, on April 18, 2020 at 2:45 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 6
Hello,
I am an ER doctor and will be getting married 10/3/20 (not sure what our wedding is gonna look like given the pandemic). I received my dress before the pandemic hit the states and am supposed to be getting it tailored. My tailor said that once the restrictions lift a bit, he can schedule me for a fitting. My concern is that I am a high-risk individual and don’t want to put anyone else at risk. Not sure how to go on with planning/fitting/etc without exposing others. I follow all protective guidelines and am asymptomatic, but who knows if I’m a carrier...any thoughts? I also wonder if the tailor might not want to work with me because if this. Thanks for any advice.

Stay safe out there! (And by out there, I mean, in your home, lol.)

I’d ask to go before the shop opens so maybe it’s just you and the tailor. Also, have the tailor wear ppe during the fitting and assist in cleaning any items you came in contact with.

I went to my seamstress this morning. She works out of a local business that is not allowing random public members pop in. It was just me, my mom, the seamstress, and another employee. We also brought masks as a precaution.

Take precautions, wear a mask and only have direct contact with the seamstress.

Hi Victoria! Would you feel comfortable waiting a little longer to begin your dress fittings? Even if schedule appointments to begin in early July - you'd still have 3 months to complete the alterations!

That longer timeline might give us all flexibility to catch up on the public health side and develop new processes for day to day business! Or you may gain access to more regular testing in that time. Otherwise I would trust your instincts and work directly with your tailor to make special fitting accommodations for you. Whether that's coming in as the first or last appointment of the day, both wearing gloves and face masks, or even seeing if you could pay extra to arrange a home visit to minimize your exposure to other clients!

Are you able to get tested because you work in healthcare? I would hope between now and the time you need to do fittings testing will be more widely available including serology tests, and you might be able to have a better idea if you are infected or have been.

From what I know in NY, soon healthcare workers will be the first the get the antibody test and what not! I would look into it. It seems really promising as far as trying to slowly figuer out whos a risk of passing it on or whos at risk of contracting the disease. Health care workers and essentail workers will be the firsts to get offered testing so look into that because you may find something helpful that puts your mind as ease. Im suppossed to get married October 30th and I have immunodeficancy and what not so interacting in large groups is a risk for me if someone is a carrier. My immune doctors office is doing antibody tests but only on people who may have covid or may have been exposed. Then if the persn has antibodies to it they take a covid test to see if you are infected or passed. I would love the antibody test just to know if i have any or not (since we think more people then we thought may have some) but its not being offered for anyone who isnt essential or symptoms of sickness!
