Don't Stop Believin'

Bride2Be, on April 30, 2013 at 2:26 AM Posted in Planning 0 14

What do you guys think of this song for our first dance? Background: FH and I worked in a bar together. One night this song played (before we were even dating, just best friends) and we had been talking across the bar. We just stared at each other and stopped talking for practically the whole song. I swear, I was in such a haze and everything was moving so fast around us but all I could see was him. We finally snapped out of it and our co-workers were just looking at us and we ALL realized that we had fallen in love. That was about 8 years ago!

It's been our song ever since and all our friends even know that, so FH wanted it to be our first dance. I thought the song had a negative context so I thought it would be nice for it to be the last song of the night. The more we search for a 1st dance song, we can't find something we like so I looked up the meaning. It can be interpreted so many ways, but I found a few that actually relate to what FH & I were going through @ the time (cont'd)

"A lonely girl, going through a dark time in her life, meets up with a guy going through the same thing at the same time. I would like to think that they became lovers, each holding the missing piece in the others puzzle. The search was over. Time for that well deserved happiness now."

"Life is rough sometimes, and is for everyone. There will be good times and you just have to "hold on to the feelin'" of hope and belief and you'll get through the rough times. Life continues, don't stop believing."

I thought it was about a one night stand always, but I read an interview with the writer and he pretty much says the same as the above although in not so many words.

    So what do you think?

I think that song would be fine. I always thought the same thing as what you posted, I never thought of it as a one night stand. It means so much to you two and you both like the song, it is how you connected as a couple. No wonder you can't find one to top it, because it is YOUR song! I say go for it!

I think you can have your first dance to any song and it is no ones business what the song is and what the context of the song is. It is your first dance and if you want it to be Baby Got Back it is okay if it means something to you!

It's your wedding and it's your song, right? So why not make it your first dance? We're actually using it as our last song at our wedding!

Oh good!! I feel better now. I kind of liked closing out the wedding with it, but it might be better for our first dance. Our DJ said he actually does a skit where he plays this song and makes the groomsmen sing this song to the bride. Maybe he can choose a different one for that.

@Maggie - oh Baby Got Back would be amazing!!

I've heard that song at least 500 times in my life and never thought that it was about a one-night stand. The story behind it for you is meaningful...that's all that matters!

I say you do it! It's a great song and if it has meaning for you, I don't see any reason why you shouldn't do it.
