Don’t release balloons

Little bit of a rant here, but I’ve been looking for send-off ideas this morning. I’m quite a bit irritated that in every Top # Lists I’ve seen so far lists balloon releases, you know where people have helium filled balloons that are let go at a certain time and we all watch them float away. One of them even suggested tying flower seeds to the end of the string to plant flowers where they land. At least they acknowledged that they will land somewhere.
I’m not a “jumped off the deep end” environmentalist. I still use straws, but I make sure they go in the trash to the landfill not washed into rivers/oceans.
What got me was on these lists there were specific about cleaning up whatever was tossed, but there’s no cleaning up released latex balloons which land who knows were to choke a wide array of wildlife. I just think it’s crazy that we went through this huge thing against plastic straws because of turtles, even though we can make an effort to see that straws are disposed of properly, but yet people are still releasing balloons purposely into nature.

I wanted to do a sparkler send off! I love the pictures! We are actually going to have Hawaiian flowers thrown as we walk down the aisle.

I would look at the sparkler pictures.

I agree, since I'm planing a fall wedding; I've decided to use heart shaped hole punches and use the leaves as a confetti alternative! Saw this on Facebook and thought it was such an incredible idea!

Great thoughts from everybody. For our wedding we thought bubbles would be fun but the little plastic throw away bottles didn't feel right to us. So we purchased bubble guns for all the kids. This way they are reusable indefinitely. Our adult friends that we told were so bummed that we were only getting them for the kids we actually bought more for the adults too.

I just saw this myself. I’m curious on a few things with it (1) how much ahead of time could I feasibly work on this and (2) could I implore a class of kindergarteners to punch them for me? 🤔😝

I’ve got a few ideas, but we’re doing a 2 o’clock ceremony and having a shorter reception directly after, so not staying till dark. FH & I will be driving 2 hours to our honeymoon cabin afterwards.
    So I’m thinking between
    - jingle bells (0 waste, I can reuse these in my classroom for years)- leaf confetti (only waste would be the paper cones)- paper airplanes (gotta clean up the paper, and yeah it’s waste, but compostable)
