Don’t like my dress.. help :(

Taylor, on November 10, 2019 at 3:41 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 8
Hi all. My wedding dress came in yesterday and i really really don’t love it. A few months after buying it i started seeing other dresses i might’ve liked more on me, called the bridal salon and they explained They couldn’t halt production once in process. They said my 60% deposit was non refundable and i could either forfeit the remaining cost of the dress or buy it and try to resell it. Upon trying it on yesterday, they allowed me to try on the dress i thought I’d like more and i definitely didn’t like it. I went to many stores and tried on many, many dresses. I never felt that “wow” feeling trying on any dress so i almost feel like i settled. The dress is gorgeous, just not the right silhouette for my body shape. I can’t fathom just buying a new dress as my mom bought this for me and it was a few thousand dollars. Plus i don’t have the heart to tell her. I am so upset and mad at myself Smiley sad any suggestions? I’m thinking of going to a couple seamstresses to see if they are able to redesign the dress, which i fear may cost as much as buying a new one. So stuck and bummed. I just want to feel really pretty on my wedding day, and when i tried it on i really didn’t feel any joy or “wow” factor.

This happens to a lot of brides. Your suggestion of taking it to a seamstress to see how they can make a few changes that you might like. Maybe some bling added or sleeves if it’s sleeves less, etc.

I’m sorry you’re feeling this way. When you get the dress fitted exactly for your body, it will look so much better. I changed the neckline of my dress which made me love it 💯 more. When I tried it on when it came in, I wasn’t in love but once I tweaked it and had it fitted, it changed the look so much and I fell in love. Don’t get discouraged

I agree with PP, don't get discouraged just yet! Minor adjustments here and there can completely change the look of the dress, and seamstresses can work WONDERS. Maybe try to pinpoint the main things you don't love about your dress and what you think you would like more, and talk those over with a seamstress. She could even pin it up so you can visualize the result.
I'm going to pick up my dress in a couple weeks and plan to make many changes, having an alterations consultation to discuss them when I pick up. 🤞
    Good luck to you!

I’m so sorry that you don’t love your dress!! Is there anything you can point out specifically about it that you don’t love or that could be changed to improve it?

Thank you. I mainly don’t like the silhouette on my body type and the material. It is a sheath/slight mermaid dress. It is a very lace-y and ornate dress and i wish it was broken up a little more with tulle to make it more flowy and to break up the material a bit more

Is it form-fitting, or is it something that you think an underskirt or petticoat could fix?

Also, as far as it being too lace-y, maybe you could get a beaded or sparkly belt or look into getting beads or sequins sewn onto it, maybe just the bodice. Then it would visually break up the dress more.

Yeah, I’m kind of feeling similar and my dress hasn’t come in yet. I went dress shopping very quickly after getting engaged and bought a dress I fell in love with. But since I followed all these designers on social media and have obviously been noticing other wedding gowns after wedding planning, I’m starting to wonder if I’d like something else more... I would talk to your seamstress and tell them what you’re thinking. Minor adjustments, adding tulle can totally change the look of a dress. I’m sure they hear it often, and they work on gowns all the time, they might have an idea or way to help that you don’t even know exists! Don’t give up!

Also, look into dress overskirts! This could play down the beading and add some poof factor.
