Don't forget to communicate!!

Amanda, on February 9, 2020 at 9:30 AM Posted in Family and Relationships 0 5

It finally happened. FH and I got into a huge fight last night over silly things (which did not seem silly at the time) and realized we haven't been communicating with each other as much as we have in the past. While we are both busy working (overtime too for wedding expenses) we have forgotten to make time for us as a couple and to PUT OUR PHONES AWAY and actually have face to face, open ended conversation over coffee. FH left for work this morning (he's a pilot so he actually leaves for days when he heads to work) and we woke up early together to have coffee and chat this morning like we used to do. Y'all...it was so nice!! I highly recommend putting down our phones and having these face to face moments as often as feel's comfortable for you as a couple and to actually talk about things that bother us well before they become a boiling point. Every couple fights, but the couple's that last learn from their battles...and also don't keep score. Unless it's something like reality tv predictions...then absolutely keep score.

That's my soapbox message of the day. LOVE Y'ALL and keep talking!!

It’s true that we all get so caught up in that things around us that we don’t communicate. It’s good that you quickly recognized it and fixed it before things got out of hand.

Thanks for the reminder! FH & I used to wake up at least 30 mins early every morning to sit on the porch & chat over coffee. Somewhere along the line with working (overtime for him lately too), and wedding planning, we’ve stopped doing it. Going to put this back into effect ASAP!

It's so important and something that can be easily over looked or "replaced" with texting. While we cannot have a no phones at all rule, we can surely come up with a no phones during certain times of the day situation. I'm also kind of glad this happened not so close to the wedding so we can reflect on and learn from this situation and give it time to focus, not have to run it over and bury it for awhile.

Definitely! I find that wedding "talk" becomes a running theme many days in a row, to the exclusion of anything else! I put a halt on wedding related discussion when it gets too overwhelming and I realize we haven't said much more than, "caterers, invitations, website, colors....etc." in days! Luckily FH agrees and we take a break, so important!

I needed to see this!! Since I have been hard core wedding planning the last couple months I have spent less time with my future husband and we don’t communicate as much face-to-face. We spend most our time heads in phone! I plan on taking a break from so much wedding planning and enjoy each other’s company like we use to.
