I would skip the dollar dance altogether. Your guests will have already spent allot of money on your wedding day.

Wendy, she didn't ask your opinion on whether or not she should have it. That being said, I can't really help you, Angel. Dollar dances are unheard of in my area, so I've never been to a wedding where they've had one...I have no idea what kind of music you would play!

    Hi Angel,

    We picked songs like:

    Colour my World – Chicago

    When I’m 64 – The Beatles

    Chances Are – Johnny Mathis

Not too slow. But not too fast either. I'm kind of weary about doing a Dallar Dance, but FH thinks it will be fun. So the DJ knows to start with 1 Dollar Dance song, and if there's not much participation to just move on.

It's a huge tradition in weddings where I'm from too (Ohio). I have never been to a wedding there that didn't have it---and everyone participants happily. I agree with Crystal though-- how long it lasts should be based on participation. I wouldn't do "Fight for your Right to Party" and stick to songs that can easily be slow danced to since you will be dancing with everyone. Smiley smile

We plan on having the dollar dance. At my best friends wedding they picked fast songs and had a really hard time dancing to them. I would pick slower songs.

    Isn't she lovely- Stevie Wonder

That's what friends are for- Dionne Warwick

    Count on me- Whiteny Houston

    I'll be there- Jackson 5

I understand that in some regions it is traditional but to me it sounds odd. Going to weddings are so expensive. You may have to buy a dress, then as a gift you want to try to cover the cost of your plates for you and your spouse. Then there may be travel and hotel expenses, not to mention engagement and a shower gifts. After spending all of this money, it would tick me off a little to be expected to give money to the couple to have the privilege of spending a little time with them. You can all do what you want and think is best for your wedding but to me it is a little odd.

Dollar dances are a big tradition where I am from also (western PA) jlam gave an awesome list of songs. Don't get something too fast bc you will be dancing with a lot of people and you dont want to get exhausted on the first song...but ultimately in the end, do whatever songs you want...it is your day Smiley smile

Agreed...dollar dances are big where I'm from (western PA as well) and I've never been to a wedding where there was not one! I can see that you are "asking" for money but in reality if they do not want to donate a dollar or other amount then they simply don't have to dance. With that being said, I am choosing to do a dollar dance and I honestly think I'm going to give a list to my DJ and say go for it! I know at my sisters last year, her dollar dance lasted for what seemed like hours (it really was like 30 min or so) so the DJ just kept playing!

Dollar dances are very common where I live (Utah). I plan on doing one (not sure about songs yet.) I have fun doing it whenever I go to a wedding, and its not like your demanding every person give you 50 bucks. I will probably go with songs that are fun, but not too fast.

Dollar dances are big where i live also (central NY) and every wedding i have ever been to has always had one so we will be doing it too.. the only thing that others are spending on the wedding is that the wedding party are buying their dresses and tuxes so i dont believe that having a dollar dance is that bad seeing as we are paying for everything else! but, my wedding is in less than 6 months and im just starting to find some songs, but i am have some difficulty finding songs i like for the dollar dance.. any suggestions? newer songs preferably please!! thank you Smiley smile

Who cares what song is playing, just dance! when i go to a wedding, i use this as an opportunity to have a few moments alone with the bride/groom to congratulate them and tell them how wonderful it was to be a part of their special day. so what if i have to pay to dance, really? a dollar! myself, i'd be ashamed to just pay a dollar, but its not about that, its about the special moment you get to spend with them.

i'll be doing this, but don't have a song picked out yet.

Dollar dances are popular where I am originally from (Central PA) every wedding I've been to has had it. But its a tradition in our family, that goes way back on both sides of my family. Family and/or friends are trying to help you start out your married life that's what I've always been told why we do it & most don't give but $1 or some just hop in the line to dance & don't give money. Its just a fun opportunity for guests to get involved & dance with the bride and groom. You're not really asking for money, though to some it does seem that way & they think its rude. Yea they give you money to dance with you but its just to be for fun. If someone gives more than a $1 that's their choice. We will be doing the dollar dance at our wedding next year because its a family tradition, we have fun doing it. For songs our family has always picked slow songs just any that you like to dance to but you can do whatever! Its YOUR wedding if y'all want to do the dollar dance then go for it
