Dollar Dance Song

Jess, on May 7, 2019 at 1:28 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 14

Hello everyone,

Just wondering if anyone has any recommendations for a Dollar Dance Song?? The Dollar Dance is a tradition in my FH family but I'm having a hard time finding a song for the dance.

Any help would be appreciated! Thank You in advance!

Maybe ask someone in his family what they traditionally do..?

I've never seen a money dance and I think its kinda tacky so I can only think of tacky songs like "Money (That's what I want)" and "Take the Money and Run" lol

I'd ask if there's a typical song used. If not, look around on Google. Without knowing your genre, theme, speed of song you're wanting, etc it's hard to pick out a song for you. I think it could be any song really - I don't think it has to mention money in the song.

We're looking for not like a super slow song but not for extremely fast either if that makes sense. Something kind of in the middle for speed. As for genre also open to anything besides rap.

My aunt did the dollar dance song & instead of just dancing with one person, she put a song on that everyone can dance to. She chose V.I.C Wobble. If we decide to do this then it’ll be Cupid- Cupid Shuffle

Just popping in because I'm curious about this whole idea. I had never even HEARD of a dollar dance until we started planning the wedding and he asked if we would do one. I looked at him like he was an alien. When he explained what it was, I said "NO WAY, THAT'S NOT HAPPENING" and laughed. His mother was SHOCKED we weren't doing one. Everyone in my family had no idea what it was. Regional thing? Who knows. But I'm just here creeping to see what sorts of music this uses. Smiley smile

Same here! I've seen it done once but didn't plan on doing it at our wedding.... then FH mentioned it and how all his friends had one, so I guess we're doing it. Haven't thought about the song yet.

These are what we are using

“From This Moment On” - Shania Twain

"I Hope You Dance" - Lee Ann Womack

"Friends in Low Places" - Garth Brooks

“You’ve Got A Friend In Me” – Randy Newman

I LOVE all these ideas since country music is my favorite! (our processional song, first dance song, and our father/daughter song are all country)

    Thank you!

I do too and so does all of our family.

the most important things to consider are

    NO

    1. tacky money songs

    2. No romantic songs (you will be dancing with family)

    DO

    1. keep it light and happy

    2. Try to find songs about friends/friendship

Almost every wedding I've been to has done it.....We will not be doing it at our wedding. My family if from very far away (Bangladesh) and are already spending lots of money on gifts and travel it feels rude to try amd hit them up for cash at the reception.

You can do any type of songs. It can be slow songs or hip hop (because you can make it fun and break from tradition).

It's absolutely not tacky having a dollar dance. Its not a regional thing like some might say. It's a taradition and in some cases a cultural thing.

She asked for songs suggestions not for your negative opinions. Stop being so judgy people!

Hope you have fun, enjoy your dollar dance (hope you get a few hundreds and fiftys in there).

It’s not common where I live so we opted out. But it’s very common where my family is from so I’ve seen my fair share. My cousin used “Gold Digger” lol but I think there are probably better options. “Rich Girl” by Gwen Stefani. “If I Had A Million Dollars” by Barenaked Ladies. “Can’t Buy Me Love” by the Beatles.

I’m sorry, I’m sure you’re going to get a lot of heat for even saying “Dollar Dance” on these forums. Everyone has different traditions and if your guests are used to it then I don’t see the issue. Good luck!

Traditionally, you dance to polka songs. FH and I wanted something different from that, so we may be dancing to "Can't Stop the Feeling" by Justin Timberlake. Still haven't decided! The decision is so hard.
