Dollar Dance Alternative?

Courtney, on May 20, 2017 at 8:35 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 10

To start everything off, let me be clear. There will be no ACTUAL Dollar Dance. I like the idea behind it where each guest can have a guaranteed moment of time with us, but I refuse to ask anyone to pull out their wallet at my wedding. Also, every wedding I've been to that had one, it dragged on for an awkward amount of time with one half of the couple not dancing with anyone.

Would it be weird to have them do something alternative, like trade in a note with a date idea/recipe/etc. for a few seconds of dancing?

Still making sure to go around to each table and everything, but that's always been the one thing I really like about the dollar dance idea.

Is that weird/unlikely to get anyone to dance?

I think that's the only reason I liked the dollar dance idea. Not that they were bringing their wallet out but a moment of time with the newly married and it's just fun. We won't be having one but I will be on the dance floor. Mingling is in my blood so I will make tons of rounds. Interested to see what comes up here though.

Eh, leave it alone. Just enjoy the night and dance around with your guests as much as you can, with the ones who want to dance.

Not a fan of the dollar dance or any alternative to substitute for it.

I'm not a big fan either. No-one should have to give you anything in order to have a dance.

Just go up to people and ask if they want to dance?

Why not just. um, visit people and chat with them? Isn't that why they're invited?

At our wedding my hubbie and I danced a little bit with everyone in the dance floor..then I went out into the crowd and pulled people out there with us. We had a blast and so did our guests.

Fair enough! I've just seen so many weddings here recently where the couples didn't really dance with any of their guests, and for some reason the 'dollar dance' always gets people who don't dance any other time of the night up and with them.

    Thank you!

I hear ya about wanting to get people involved. I think it depends on your crowd whether it would be a good idea or not. Some people on this forum seem to think that knowing your crowd doesn't matter, but it really does. You know your guests a lot better than we do. How do you think they will react? Will they appreciate the creativity or will they think you're just trying to hard?
