Does anyone have a dollar dance alternative - we are trying to do something different

I would just avoid trying to make money off of your wedding entirely.

No alternative needed. Just skip it and let people dance all night without being solicited for cash.

Do you also mean an alternative as in some kind of activity or game to play instead? (Regardless of the $?)

We had a cake smash at the end of the night. People placed money in either the bride or groom jar and whoever had more money in their jar got cake in the face. We did it at the end of the night in case it was me (it wasn't Smiley xd ) so it wouldn't ruin my makeup.

I know a lot of people don't like this but we are a fun, laid back couple and our guests got a kick out of it.

I'd just skip it. People spend enough money gifting at showers & wedding gifts, I don't think it's necessary to ask them for more.

They're kind of tacky. I would just skip it altogether

You could just do a "bride dance" and a "groom dance". The idea would be for everyone to dance with you during one of your favorite songs (make sure you get to everyone) and then similar for the groom? To posters who think dollar dances are tacky, it's not all about the money. It's also a chance for guests to have 1 on 1 time with the bride and/or groom. Sometimes that's the only opportunity to have a quick conversation with them

Seems like you could interact with your guests without having them pay for your time.

There's something extra sentimental to actually slow dance 1 on 1 with the bride and/or groom even when you've been dancing and interacting all night. It' not about the money at all. I don't know how the idea of "pay for a dance got started", but for me its a fun tradition that's at every wedding I've been to. Looks like this bride wants to do something different which is nice too!

If you do want to go the dollar route, this is a better way to do it. The cake smash makes it completely optional to give a dollar, where a dollar dance makes guests feel obligated. Personally, I wouldn't do any of them, but I find the cake smash the more polite option, and the groom always wears the cake haha!
