Doing Your Own Bridal Makeup

I did strongly consider doing my own makeup - I love makeup and find it a relaxing hobby, but 2 things put me off.

First of all, it tends to take me longer when I'm nervous and I can find it hard to do a good job - I didn't want to be getting more and more anxious on the morning of, running out of time and getting more stressed out.

Second of all, my bridesmaids/closest friends who are getting ready with me are not as into makeup as I am and would want a professional to do theirs, and so I would definitely have felt obliged to provide one (they've paid for my makeup at their weddings in the past, so it only seems fair). I was worried that I'd then have FOMO after looking at their makeup, and would find myself wishing I'd had a professional do mine too, especially if I was stressing.

So, I decided to pay someone so I could just relax. If it doesn't look the way I want, it's their problem to fix, rather than mine and I can just chill.

Even though it wasn't the right choice for me, I do think it's totally possible to do your own makeup and look fabulous!

My one other warning would be that if you don't do it regularly, you may end up finding purchasing all the products and tools you need would end up costing you as much as just paying for a professional to do it would. Then there's the added element of having to learn how to use each product if you're not already confident with them, but overall I wouldn't discourage someone from doing their own!

I’m going to do my own makeup. Never liked the results when artists do it for me. The only part I’m not great at is eyeshadow. So I’ve been practicing with different colors.

I did my own makeup!

I am planning on doing my own makeup. I have freckles and any time someone else has done my makeup it ends up caked on so thick they disappear. That isn't me.



I am also in a different boat than others here because my only attendant is my sister, who is my MoH. She dislikes formal makeup but is very good at doing her own.

The only hurdle so far for me is getting the right lipstick that won't smear when we kiss.

Wow i say why hire someone when you can do it better yourself/

I have been married once before and did my own makeup then. I used to be a makeup artist, so it just made sense to me. This time around I am hiring someone. I’d rather just sit back and relax while I take the day in. I’m also paying for my girls makeup as a treat.

I did my own makeup! My sister and MIL got their makeup done. I didn’t have a bridal party. I have no regrets... I didn’t feel like the people who did get their makeup done upstaged me at all!

Doing my own! Two reasons, I just want to look like me, and also I'm cheap. HAHA!

Im doing my own makeup too. I like doing makeup and I really don't like how heavy a MUA does it; even though I know they say go heavier so it shows in pics. I also don't want to hugely not look like myself with tons of makeup and lashes done out of my normal look.

I'm doing my own makeup! I'm using Allie Gline's drugstore wedding makeup video (but substituting the most natural lashes I could find and a foundation I know I already love), and just did my trial this weekend!

We're having a destination wedding, and when I got quotes back for how much it would be to get my hair and makeup done, I just couldn't justify it or find room in the budget. I used Ulta gift cards to buy any hair products or makeup I wanted/needed but didn't already own, so all in - including my hair pins - my hair and makeup are costing me $50 out of pocket!

This took me about an hour and 15 minutes while watching the video, and this being my first time through. I plan on writing out the steps and making myself a little instruction manual so I don't have to watch the entire video again! I really wanted a natural glam look, if that's a thing, and wanted to look like "me but more"!
