Doing my own makeup!?!

Aleah, on August 13, 2019 at 10:03 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 4 11
Hi!!
So I am getting married October 19th, and I don’t have room in my budget for a professional makeup artist, so I am doing my own makeup, I am pretty good at makeup, but most of my products are.. drugstore quality😷😅
so to those of you who have or are going to do tour own makeup at your wedding, please blow my phone up with tips and recommendations, products etc, my biggest problem right now is foundation! I want full flawless coverage, but I have hopelessly dry skin, so most of the foundations I have tried just flake my skin up like oats.. I know it’s cliche but I want to look and feel my best, I’m very shy also and I’m going to be in front quite a few people although they are family they are still a crowd to me, so I don’t want to be worrying about my makeup, and feeling insecure! I want to feel confident, and be able to fully take in the precious moments. Well that’s all, hope to get some replies soon, thanks!

Honestly, if you need to buy more that 2 or 3 products, it would probably be cheaper to hire an artist. But, if you stick to brands like color pop and morphe, you can gets products that are better than drugstore but but without the "luxury" price tag.

Apply lotion to your face before you start and let that absorb then add primer. Are you using a primer? That might help your foundation problem. You can even get cheap ELF brand from like Walgreens. I have some of that and I also have an expensive one and honestly feel like I can’t tell the difference.

Not sure what day/Time is your wedding. Is it possible to get to local makeup counter & ask them for a dry run---just say you're getting married in a couple of days & you want to see how to do it yourself---get them to do a really really good job, buy a lippie or favorite something they used & leave camera/wedding ready?

I agree with the primer! Play around with what you have and do not be afraid to walk into Sephora/Ulta and ask for samples! Tell them you skin type and they will help you! But there is nothing wrong with “drugstore” makeup- it’s actually really giving high end makeup a run for their money haha also, YouTube is a wonderful place with many many tutorials that will help! It’s not a cliche to want to feel amazing on our wedding day! You defiantly deserve it! Good luck

What moisturizer are you using? It sounds like maybe you need more hydration on the daily. Maybe check out Clinique's Dramatically Different Moisturizing Gel and get the Clinical Dry Skin one, I use their combination skin one, but accidentally grabbed their Clinical Dry Skin one (they look the exact same) and was amazed at the texture, it was way too much hydration for my combination skin. If you have the right moisturizer, flaking shouldn't be a problem. To make your foundation last all day, try using the "perfect foundation" trick where you dust your face with translucent setting powder after your moisturizer then adding on your makeup, it makes mine last all day even in my oily T zone. Other than that, if you have an Ulta Beauty near you, you should consider doing one of their MAC formal makeup appointments, I believe they're somewhere around $40, you can always do a test run and see if you like it, then book the appointment again with the same artist there for the day of your wedding if you do. Then you get good products, a test run and a final day of makeup session for under $100.

I like Pureminerals, Tarte and Urban Decay for foundation. Splurge on your foundation, save money on the other things. You can get good foundation for $30 or less and everything else closer to $5. You can also get your makeup done at Sephora for “free”(you have to buy something, just buy a lipstick)
Most higher end makeup brands do samples, be it full size ones that last a month or one time use samples. There’s a lot of sellers on Amazon that sell their makeup samples they got for free from a huge purchase, especially Lancome(LOVE their eyeshadow!) and Nyx makes excellent affordable makeup, especially their lipsticks.
If you get creative with your spending you’ll have a great look for cheap!

I love ELF products- they make a great overnight moisturizer- I'd recommend that to help with any breakouts.

If the main thing you need is a foundation, I went to Sephora yesterday to have them do the ColorIQ thing that gave me a perfect match to my undertones. It was $39 (Tarte Found clear) but that stuff is going to last me FOREVER!

I’ve heard great things about laura mercies flawless fusion foundation. Moisturize twice a day and use a hydrating primer when you’re applying your foundation. Make sure the products you decide to use don’t have flashback so your makeup still looks great in your photos.

I don’t think they would do that great a job without her setting up an actual makeup appointment and paying the fee, which it sounds like she doesn’t have. If she just does in and asks for help I’m sure they’ll not give her the time she properly deserves and show her how to do it without doing her whole face.

Perhaps. I did it at Ulta for a business photoshoot & photos came out great which is why I suggested.
