Doing a happy dance at my desk!!!

Tbear, on September 20, 2019 at 10:14 AM Posted in Community Conversations 0 8

I *JUST* got confirmation that the company WILL have my replacement custom kilt jacket ready and expedited to me in time for the wedding!!!

For those of you catching up1) I started the process of finding a custom kilt jacket maker about a year ago. 2) I researched the "level of customizing" that each shop was capable. (For instance, some places may alter an off the rack piece and call it "custom", other places will create the entire piece according to your measurements). 3) I am short, round and a unique sonnafagun. I chose the shop that would create the jacket exactly to my measurements. 4) Ordered in March to the tune of about $420 for the custom jacket. Got the jacket in the end of April. 5) Immediately contacted the shop via emails with pics. The biceps were WAY tight and they put the wrong color buttons on it. Was told "We made the jacket to your measurements, so we cannot do anything about that, but send the jacket back and we will put the correct buttons on." 6) Revamped my gym/lifting to high reps and low low low weights to ensure that I would not bulk up my biceps any further 7) Found a tailor who would try to let out the seams in the biceps to gain more room. ($100 in alterations)
8) Still not enough room in my bicep. My tailor asked me to bring my jacket back in, the original measurements that I sent the Kilt company. We measured my bicep. Same # as before. She measured the jacket. Found out that the root cause was the Kilt company made the biceps 3" too small. (Most likely they made a custom chest and back and slapped on regular shaped sleeves instead of using the measurements given.) Even after the alterations, I still was missing 2" of fabric and could barely lift my arms up without feeling like I was gonna rip the jacket in two like the Hulk.
9) My tailor gets on the phone with the Kilt company and pretty much shames them into doing right by me, but now we are working on an EXTREMELY tight schedule since the jacket is made across the pond in Scotland! 10) Cue anxiety attacks 11) Cannot lose my s**t on the Kilt company because they are also renting us my father's kilt outfit for the wedding 12) Stuff down the anxiety (or at least not talk about it like a good lil WASP 13) 3 weeks from the wedding, I finally gain the courage to ask them for an update.
BEST NEWS EVER!
"Coy talked to the manager of the mill and has been assured that we will have it before then. It may be that week that we get it, but as soon as we get it we will expedite it out to you."
I need a cocktail.It's 5 o'clock somewhere, right?

I'm SO glad your situation is finally being rectified, it's about time! Yay for your tailor shaming the Kilt company, I bet they were scared after that LOL

    Won't be long now!

I only became a bear when they first tried saying that it was my fault for taking so long to bring the issue to their attention (aka. I took too long to prove that they screwed up) and weren't sure that they could help me.

Between my tailor shaming them, and my letter included in the jacket when I sent it back threatening to look into legal options if we could not resolve the issue... lol Yeah they might've been a lil scared.

Yet, in the letter, I honestly conceded that accidents and mistakes happen. I just expect businesses to stand behind their work and hold themselves accountable should incidents arise.

I wasn't even asking to be reimbursed for the extra $$ I spent on alterations.

I just wanted a proper fitting jacket for my wedding that i paid for

So awesome! I read your first longer thread and that's crazy that they wouldn't just fess up and make it right. That jacket couldn't have been cheap to begin with. When you shell out money you expect quality back for it!
