Doilies instead of chargers?

Mrs. Lav, on January 19, 2015 at 11:22 AM Posted in Style and Décor 0 10

So as much as I'd love gold chargers, they're out of the budget (even Dollar Tree ones, if I can track them down post-Christmas). I'm thinking of using gold doilies instead, but I can't tell if it's a silly idea (and my fiance has no opinion). We're having a plated meal (may consider salad plates and salad served family-style) so I'd still like something to delineate places. I don't want to do a folded napkin because we already made fun fall napkin rings.

I was thinking something like this? Has anyone seen it done before and would this work?

ETA: These are 12 inches.

I think it's a really great idea! I was thinking about doing silver or white doilies instead of silver chargers. The only reason we didn't was because our wedding is formal with clean lines. The doilies were giving off a vintage, lady-like feel that just isn't us.

    I say go for it!

I think that would be cool. Go for it! Vintage is huge right now.

If anyone is interested i saw red ones and white ones (paper) in the valentines day stuff at dollar tree the other day. I would have used them if my vendor didnt only have white table cloths. Its a good and budget friendly solution! Good for you!

The doily in your pic is actually a larger version of the one that was used for our STDs! They were really nice quality and pretty strong, so I think that they would work really well as chargers/placemats. Be careful what kind of doily you get though - I ordered an invitation sample with a doily that had a very intricate design. It started falling apart in my hands and the cutout pieces weren't fully cut out. (As my dad called them, the "hanging chads.") I think overall this would look really pretty though!

Great! Glad to hear everyone likes the idea. I was worried people would say it looked cheap.

@Rosie, did you order yours from Mailbox Happiness on Etsy? That's where the picture came from-- $16 for 25 of that size.

No I actually ordered my pre-made STDs from WhiteGownInvitations on Etsy (I have zero craft ability). She doesn't sell individual doilys, just STDs, table numbers, and invites that incorporate them.
