Dogs in ceremony

Heather A, on October 23, 2013 at 11:39 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 11

For anyone who has had their dogs be part of their ceremony or is planning on having them, who is walking them down the aisle?

I was at a ceremony where the groom's parents walked the dogs down the aisle. It was very cute Smiley smile They had two dogs, a boy and girl dresses as flower girl and ring bearer.

I've also seen one of the bridesmaids walk the dog down the aisle

We were originally thinking of asking my FSIL to do it, but decided that my dog's habit of running up to me and sitting down and placing his paws halfway up my legs wasn't going to fly at the wedding. He is no longer on the guest list

We have two digs and just a MoH and BM. So one will be standing with the BM and one will be walked down with the MOH. Im tempted to put stakes in the ground with their dog beds in front so hopefully they just lay down.

We have had loads of dogs in weddings (www.vowwowwow.wordpress.com) and usually, the groom or the bride walks them down. We have several handlers we recommend too, so that the couple can enjoy the wedding and the dogs don't get stressed out...a little wedding goes a long way for your average dog!

If your RB/FG's are old enough and the dog is small enough, that can work too.

I'm thinking the dogs will be my ring barers. I'm considering asking my cousin (she's 12) to walk them down the aisle so she can be part of the wedding. But I don't know if she can hold them both (one is a 30 pound cockapoo and one is a 40 pound dachshund/baset hound)

Luckily my dogs are well socialized and used to being around people, we take them to a lot of different events and things like that an they do well. So I figured they'll be great at the wedding, plus they're my family!

It really depends on the dog..some may not like the large crowds,or try to jump on people, flashes of camera, etc.

Sorry I am not much help on this, but my dog is my pride and joy and my venue does not allow dogs so I am sad about this. Smiley sad However, I was worried that he would stick to me like glue during the ceremony or bark randomly, so I guess it's not all bad. But look at this guy! He is the sweetest boy ever!!!

    He's so cute!

I intentionally wouldn't pick a venue that didn't allow dogs so it took me a while to find the perfect one.

I just need to figure out who is walking them down! I really want the cousin I mentioned earlier in this post to be part f the wedding. I just don't know how.
