Dog Sitting at Wedding

Lisa Marie, on October 6, 2019 at 9:02 PM Posted in Planning 0 17
So FH and I love our dog, Simba, and really want him to be part of our wedding and included in photos. He is allowed at the venue (ceremony & reception are at the same location) but will have to be kept in the bridal or grooms suite while food is out/being served/eaten. The only downfall is he has pretty bad separation anxiety so we were thinking about hiring someone to hang out with him after photos and such. We thought maybe of having a friend hang out with him but that would be weird and rude,“your invited to our wedding but just to hang out with Simba in the back”. We would definitely offer the person a meal in addition to payment.

So my questions are, has anyone done anything similar? Have you used Wag, or Rover for dog sitting/ walking? Any other suggestions?

Thank you!!

We brought our dog and just asked a group of friends to keep going to check on him. We have them all
keys to our room and they took turns hanging out and walking him and he was fine and it didn’t put a burden on one person.

I was in a wedding last night where they had their dog walk down the aisle. They hired a dog sitter to bring the dog to the venue about an hour before the ceremony and took the dog home immediately after the ceremony. The person wasn’t a friend or family member and was paid for dog sitting.

That’s a good idea! Our family (and friends) love him. And he’d probably be more comfortable with people he recognizes.

That’s why we did it that way. Our dog has never been with anyone but family.

I would avoid asking someone to attend but as a pet sitter if they are a friend. I would seek out a sitter you trust and have them do it. Our sitter watched our dog at her home Thursday-Saturday, brought our dog to the ceremony Saturday evening, they stayed through pictures, then she took her home & kept her through the Tuesday two weeks later when we got back from our honeymoon.

Yeah, we didn't want to ask someone to pet sit who is a friend. We've never used a pet sitter before so we need to start looking into it. It might be a good idea to petsit at home and have them transport him back and forth. He loves car rides lol. How did you find your sitter?

We found her on Nextdoor and have used her for 3 years. I'd look on Care.com and ask for recommendations from family and friends. We do a lot of overnight things so we use a sitter at least once a month.

We are having our dog in the wedding ceremony. Afterwards, we have a professional dog walker coming to transport the dog back to the hotel room (the hotel room will have his crate already setup).

We used Rover! We found someone who lived very close to our venue, and arranged for my sisters friend to be our dogs “keeper” during photos (she held his leash when he wasn’t in a pic), and then she drove him to the dog sitter for the night. She made it back in time for the ceremony and was able to enjoy the whole night, and we didn’t have to worry about him. Picked him up the next morning and all was great!

Ive used Rover a lot in the past, just read reviews and ask for a meet and greet if you feel like you want one.

I'm not sure where you're located, but there is a service in the Maryland area called Furever and Fur Always that specializes in wedding day dog care! It is very inexpensive also.

In Florida there is a service that specializes in pet care for weddings including photo posing, transportation, helping with ceremony, etc. I've also found a few other more traditional pet sitters that offer wedding services just by google search. I definitely think it's worth having hired help especially if your dog has to be transported back. We will have our dog in the ceremony but the venue requires her to leave before food comes out, and I do not want a friend or family member to miss anything.
