Dog flower girl?

Krista, on August 25, 2016 at 11:05 AM Posted in Community Conversations 0 15

I have a few nephews, but no little girls in my family. I was thinking about my flower girl and thought of maybe having my dog walk down the aisle with a flower wreath on her neck. (Clearly i love my dog a lot and would like to include her.) Has anyone ever done this or seen this before? My fh has a young brother (will be 11 at our wedding) and he will be a junior usher, i thought they could walk down the aisle together so she doesn't run off to a guest or get distracted. She is very well behaved. Thoughts?

I am an animal lover, so yes, love the idea. I have officiated at two weddings where there have been dogs as flower girls... always super cute!

Sure thing! We do loads of weddings with dogs participating.

Check out our FB page; vow-wow-wow; there are lots of photos there.

My dog will be my ring bearer. If your dog is well behaved and not overwhelmed by crowds, it's totally doable. Just make sure you have a concrete plan on who will handle her the whole time, how the dog will get to the ceremony, and back home after that, You won't want to dog to stay after the ceremony. Here's my ring bearer.

If your pup is well behaved then go for it! I think this is so cute and wish my dog was even remotely close to being well behaved enough Smiley smile

I've only seen it done once, and it was pretty crazy. The dog was well trained, but was in an unfamiliar place surrounded by unfamiliar people. When she saw the crowd, she decided she didn't really want to walk there and just sat down. The 10year old co-ring bearer who held the dog's leash couldn't get her to move, so all the aunties were running around trying to get things started and further scaring the dog. Finally, the bride decided to come out, figuring that the dog would move once she saw someone familiar. Well, she did move: she ran for Mom, face-planting the leash holding boy into the grass and getting paw prints all over the wedding dress! Finally, the DOC took over the care of the dog while all the humans got to the front of the aisle.

Long story short, it's certainly doable, but in addition to how well trained there dog is, take its size and temperament into consideration. Perhaps one option would be a wagon, like they use for human ring bearers and flower girls who might not be old enough or confident enough to walk in front of a large crowd of strangers?

I did! I had a flower girl and my flower puppy. My flower girl walked her down the aisle and she wore a flower collar made by the florist. Everyone loved it. BUT she is extremely well behaved, and it was on our own property so there was no concern about what to do with her after the ceremony; she just hung out for the reception.

I would love to have my dog be a flower girl. I can't because DW and the venue doesn't allow dogs, but I've had ideas, due to her rambunctiousness, of letting her race down the aisle with some sort of flower distribution device on her butt.

She's well behaved in theory, but I do wonder where she cooks her meth.
