Does the Officiant get an invite?

C, on August 11, 2021 at 3:30 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 7

We hired a professional officiant. Do we send him a wedding invite / rehearsal dinner invite?

We gave an invite to our officiant (it was my husbands aunt). However, I am not sure of the proper etiquette, ours was going to receive an invite officiant or not!

They don’t receive an invitation to the wedding because they are a contracted vendor. A friend/relative would receive an invitation. However they should be extended an invitation to the rehearsal dinner.

No invite to the reception. Since they're a paid vendor, I wouldn't invite them to the rehearsal dinner either.

Note that many officiants charge extra to attend your rehearsal.

My officiant said she felt awkward when people didn’t invite her to the reception ahead of time. If she didn’t receive an invitation, she would head home. She said she was always very grateful for the couples that invited her!

No. They are a hired vendor, not a guest.

Hi ! I wouldn't feel that it's obligatory... We did invite our officiant, as it was our pastor with whom we had a really good wibe for 6 months of preparation before the wedding.
