Does the "it" dress exist?

Bridget, on April 16, 2022 at 1:02 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 1 13

I went shopping today by myself for bridal dresses. I tried 7 dresses. I liked about 3 of them. Liked...not loved. But I fear now I won't find the "IT" dress. Some body insecurities occurred but I still didn't get the "say yes moment" I have another appt for another bridal try on the end of this month. Feel like I might just find a dress I can tolerate.

Don’t ever settle on anything because your disappointment will show in pictures that you are uncomfortable. Many brides don’t find their dress in the first appointment. They have to look at a number of styles and shops. Your dress is out there but you haven’t come across it yet, so keep looking and don’t give up. When you do find the dress, you won’t want to take it off. Branch out to other stores, even if it means a short road trip including the try on at home services and also browsing department stores.

Different stores, all styles. Your dress is out there. I tried on styles that I thought I wanted but when I tried them on I didn't like them on me, then I tried the opposite of what I wanted and I loved it.

Keep searching! Yes there's an "it" dress! Maybe even go the custom route!

You will find “it”. And, I like my dress even more once I accessorized it with a belt, veil and hair piece. I went to 3 shops and tried on anywhere from 5-20 dresses at each place. Keep going. Don’t give up!

You’ll definitely find it! I went to 7 different stores and tried on over 50 dresses before I said yes to the one! Sometimes it takes a bit of searching.

It exists! I was like you – I kind of liked a lot of dresses, but didn’t LOVE them. I very nearly settled for a dress that I just liked the most. I am so glad I didn’t!! The very next store I went to (I think it was like the 7th or 8th store)…. I found The One!! When you find it, you will know it! We’ve had to postpone twice (bc of covid), and it’s now been almost 3 years since I picked my dress. I was terrified I wouldn’t like it as much after all this time, but when I pull it out of the garment bag to look at it, I am just as in love!! Keep looking and don’t settle!! You’ll find “it”.

I disagree. There's a ton of dresses out there, and there definitely isn't just one that would work for you. There were a couple of dresses I loved, and I honestly think I couldn't have gone wrong with any of them. I definitely would go to a couple more shops though.

You will find something it's the anxiety that we want to find THEE DRESS and you will plus you went alone with not having that support that will not talk you out of what you want. But they can give you that cheering section that loves you. And I have no doubt that you will find your dress and say yes to your dress

Keep searching! I went to 3 different boutiques before I found the one, and when you know...you know. I initially tried on some that I liked, but similar to you I didn't love any. The bridal stylist even saw it in my eyes and told me not to settle until I find something I love and was even the one who suggested I shop around at a few different boutiques. As you go dress shopping, you will also hone in on the stylistic elements you like and you will be able to better communicate to the bridal stylist what it is you like/don't like. I think that's what did it for me at my final dress shopping experience - I was starting to worry that it would take me forever to find a dress I loved or that maybe I wouldn't even find "the one", but by the 3rd boutique, I knew the fabric and styles I liked best on me, and the first dress my stylist had me try on was the one!

That’s beautiful. I appreciate you sharing. In fact I appreciate everyone sharing and being so encouraging. I definitely booked more places to go to. Excited to see what the future (dresses) holds.

Look at the pictures of you in those dresses and find the things you did like. I went to a couple different bridal stores. At the first, I tried on multiple silhouettes to try to determine which one I liked best for my body. At the second, I tried to narrow down details like lace or satin, long train, short train, straps, off shoulder, strapless, etc. I don't love my stomach/hips/thighs so I knew immediately a form fitting, mermaid or fit and flare would not be for me. I also knew I did not want a true ballgown with all that poof. I went into my second appointment thinking I'd want something a-line, all white, very little detail, horse hair layers at the bottom, satin top, but I hated it. HATED the way it looked on me. So we started to slowly get to more lace. I tried on probably 14-18 total dresses at the second store and the one I loved and knew was the one, was somewhere in the middle, I tried on a few more after but kept going back to that one and comparing dresses to that. Keep looking, don't get discouraged!
