Does the bride have to give a toast?

Mrs. Turner2B, on April 13, 2010 at 5:54 PM Posted in Planning 0 13

I'm not at all afraid of having 100 eyes on me as I walk down the aisle...even knowing that I'lll be walking halfway down the aisle by myself. But...a toast? I cringe!! Do I have to do one? Who are you having give a toast?

Haha, I laugh because I am also fine with walking down the aisle by myself with all eyes on me but I do not want to give a toast. So I told my FH that its the groom's responsibility to give a toast to thank everyone for coming. Sneaky, I know, but he was fine with it and now I dont look like a little scared kid. :-)

Usually a brief "thank you" is appreciated by your guests.

I have only seen grooms giving a ty toast mainly. I spoke as well though because I just really wanted to. I was afraid that he would forget someone and I just like the thought of a bride speaking up too.

Not really sure if it's a "supposed to" or if it's just polite. I'd say if you don't do a toast to everyone that you might want to give individual thanks as you greet people or go visit their tables or however you arrange it. They'd appreciate a special "thanks for coming" from you as well as your new mate.

Our venue manager suggested giving a quick thank you right after we cut the cake b/c we'll have everybody's attention.

We are planning on doing a quick toast thanking everyone. I am not sure whether I am going to do it or my FH. Since his guest list is larger, I think he should do it. Teach him. LOL.

I dont see to many couples giving actual toasts. What I see more of is the couple giving a heartfelt thanks to their guests for coming and the attendants for helping them make the day special. It almost always happens after the toasts from the BM, MOH and FOB.

I'm going to let that be FH's job...I can handle everyone watching as I walk down the aisle, but I just know I would get all fuddled and mess up a toast. He likes to talk more than I do anyway.

Fewer than a third of our brides and grooms give reception speeches. It's not a requirement. This page may help you with your toasting etiquette: http://www.discjockey.org/toasting/
