Does nobody insure their rings?

Mandie, on July 12, 2023 at 11:12 PM Posted in Community Conversations 0 6
Ok so I’m taking a girls trip to Miami. But I JUST got engaged. And I DON’T WANT TO TAKE MY RING OFF!!! Lol. The way I’m seeing it is, it is a Jared’s ring that is insured. But it seems to be a huge discussion. People are afraid to lose or damage it. I’m on the fence because everyone else is saying it’s a bad idea. Is everyone else just worried because their ring isn’t insured? Or am I missing something?

A lot of women don’t wear their rings on vacation (especially to international destinations or beaches) for fear of damage, loss or theft. Insurance can replace a ring, but it cannot replace the sentimental value attached to the specific one a spouse proposed with. Personally, I would value a replacement ring/stone a lot less than the one my FH popped the question with. It wouldn’t be as special to me any more.

The way I see it, jewelry is meant to be worn. Damage can be fixed and insurance can cover if it gets lost. It doesn't do any good sitting in a box. I'm not very sentimental though, so a replacement ring wouldn't bother me. Also, my ring and any expensive jewelry I have is insured. That's very important.

If you still want to have a ring to wear on vacation, a lot of people get cheap substitutes. They have some really pretty ones on Etsy and Amazon for under $30. Are they a real diamond? No. But it’s something shiny and sparkly to have on that finger without the risk of losing/damaging your real one! For full disclosure, though, my ring is pearl so extra delicate, and I’ve worn mine on every vacation since being engaged lol. I am looking forward to getting my wedding band, which will be more durable.

A lot of people leave their rings at home when they go on beach vacations because you should take the ring off before going into the ocean or the pool. Also, it’s just generally not recommended to take them onto the beach in general. So many people lose their engagement rings in the sand. I’ll usually wear my rings on vacation and leave it in the hotel safe while at the pool/beach and then put them on again after I come back and have showered.

Ok so sentimental reasons. Makes sense. I picked my ring out so it’s not as sentimental and I wouldn’t really care if I had to get a new stone to replace one that’s lost. But that makes sense for someone who is attatched to that specific stone

I got a dupe for 13$ on Amazon but like I just want to wear my absolute rock of a diamond lol and it is insured. But from what I’m seeing I guess it’s a sentimental thing. Which I’m not all that sentimental in that sense anyway. I would be just as happy with a identical replacement. I’m gathering that it’s a matter of preference. And moral/ sentiment.
