Does it matter which side the bride stands on?

NoMore, on September 15, 2015 at 9:55 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 13

Is there some kind of rule for this? I noticed that in the majority of the pictures, the bride is standing on the left side with her bridesmaids off to the side/behind her but does it even matter?

Traditionally, in Christian weddings, the bride is on the left, and in Jewish weddings, she is on the right. If you're not religious, it doesn't matter.

I'm Christian but I think I'm going to stand on the right. So many traditions are going out the window so I don't feel obligated to follow this one

I stood on the left even though I am not religious. My dad walked me down and he stood on my left, so that made it easier for him to get to his seat. Perhaps your dad could stand on either side though? Who really knows lol.

Im curious on which side does the dad normally walk on. I would that if the bride stood on left she'd walk down that same side???? any advice?

I would think the FOB would walk on whatever side he will be sitting on for easy access to his seat. Otherwise he would have to cross in front or back of the bride.

I heard traditionally the bride is on the grooms left, to leave his sword arm free (hearkening back to the days where weddings started with kidnapping the bride) but there is absolutely no reason to do it one way or the other aside from preference. I am blind on the left side of both eyes (long story) so DH *always* stands on my right, so that's how we faced the officiant.

I stood on the left side (from the audience). No reason, that's just the way our officiant positioned us, and I didn't care.

Traditionally it's the left, and I heard the same reasoning as Zoe stated as to why that is. I haven't really given it much thought but whenever I picture FH and I at the alter I am always on the left, but I don't think it matters which side you stand on unless there's a religious reasoning for it.

I had no idea there was a rule around this. My plan is to stand where the priest tells me to during our rehearsal.

For most of my beach weddings, the breeze is coming out of the north or west, so it works for the bride to be on the left (from guests' perspective). But, if the wind is blowing from the south, I switch them around so her hair/veil is not blowing into her face.

Sometimes couples like to stand so their families can see their faces as the couple is facing each other.

The officiant asked me to be stage right, but I don't think it mattered so much as she wanted to make sure my friends were standing on the correct side when I walked in.

Ours was a Christian ceremony which normally has the Bride 👰‍♂ walking down the aisle and placed on the left of her Groom at the alter. Yet, as I have right side facial paralysis, I walked on the left of my son and stood on the right side at the alter facing my groom. It was perfect as my right paralyzed facial side was facing the alter and I have some pictures 📸 I love ❤️ as my disfigurement wasn't front and center. Just celebrated 🍾 our 2yr Anniversary on Aug 28...😊. Wishing you all much ❤️ & happiness 😊 no matter the side you stand on as long as the person on your side is the ❤️ of your life....
