Does it all have to match?

Jennifer G, on September 25, 2013 at 2:39 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 24

Well I am on stationary this month and i have ordered my STD's (going out next month wedding is in April) Ordered my invitations, now I am working on programs and menus. My theme is vintage victorian and my colors are champagne, blush, white & ivory. My girls are wearing blush and my dress is champagne and ivory just to give you a visual. my questions is based on the pictures below does it all have to match? I am a little concerned that the programs are too modern but I like them Smiley smile My wedding is in the evening so i thought I could get away with black programs.

Attached are my pics of my invites, STD's, menus and programs although I have not ordered the menus and programs yet and if you'll notice my STd's are kind of modern but I think it works...I hope??

A couple more decor pics just so you can tell me is it all over the place or does it work??

1st pic are going to be printed on sugar cookies and wrapped in silophane (spelling??) with ribbon and laid on their dessert plate as a favor.

Second pic is centerpeices these will be put on top of old vintage books next to a lantern with pale pink rose petals on the table and doilies. 3rd pic my dress just because I wanted to show it off...Smiley smile

I love the save the date cards and pretty much everything else. I don't think it all has to match. Struggling with that since we are having for formal evening wedding and reception is in old rustic barn, challenging to make it transition appropriately. Love your dress!!

Thanks Aimes, yes I hear you my wedding is in a castle in the evening also so I am trying to keep it elegant and stay with the theme but it's hard to get everything to match perfectly so now I'm like well as long as it goes, it's not like their going to be holding the programs up next to their invitations so I think it will be okay. Thank you I have had my dress since 2011 and I LOVE it, and can't hardly wait to wear it.

Hm, I'm a stickler for things matching... I made sure that our STDs reflected the formality of our wedding. FI wanted a cutesy photo one, so we compromised, by having the photo and "save the date" written on one side, with the actual info printed out on the other side, similar to a formal invitation. We then used formal thank-you cards for the gifts we were given at our engagement party.

BalletshoesRachel so does that mean you think it's to all over the place? I am a stickler for things matching too but I couldn't find some of the things I needed in the same design and some of them I just didn't like as much. I did my STD's sort of the same all my info is on the back mostly too.

I am the same way i really wasn't looking for "cutsie" either.

Jennifer, to me everything you have blends together elegantly. I like to stick to a theme, but I do not think everything has to be matchy-matchy. I really think all of your items work together well.

I think everything you've posted looks great together, even if they don't technically "match." I'm sort of a crazy person, so all my stationery is from the same line, but that's just me. As long as you're happy with your choices; that's what matters.

Matching isn't he necessary. Our std and invitations are very different. We just chose things we liked.

I think it all looks great & works well together, very pretty cookies wrappers & I love love love your centerpieces Smiley smile A little variety never hurt anyone!! Our invites, std & programs didn't match one bit & no one said a peep about it.

I LOVE the mismatched! There's just something about making different things work together that I think is awesome! Pick what you like... no one is going to be like, "Oh my god, I can't believe the programs don't match the invitations, what was she thinking?!" =)

Thank you I feel better now I agree it doesn't have to be matchy matchy as long as it blends the only thing I was really concerned about was the programs and the fact the menus have music notes on them and that really doesn't have anything to do with my theme but they looked vintage and corresponded nicely with my colors. The cookies will actually be imprinted with those designs on them they're going to be very cool and these are the tea cup cupcakes my dessert lady is fabulous....2nd pic middle picture is going to be my bouquet.

Everything you have doesn't look out of place at all. And to be honest, unless you have a clown themed STD and a Victorian Lace invitation, I don't think anyone will really notice. What you have is perfect!

Not everything has to match perfectly. Remember, most of these items will not be viewed side by side. My goal would to evoke the same feel from each item - Victorian wedding.

So that being said, I don't think the programs say 'Victorian wedding'. They are very simple, and to me Victorian means a level of elegant opulence. I think you can still do the black, it just needs more embellishment.

I really love the theme and your dress!

Thanks Abby, so your only issue is the programs. I agree they are simple but that is what i like. By victorian I mean lots of lace, pearls, doilies and roses which i am incorporating but I kinds feel like the programs stick out but I spent so much time on them and just finished revising them and now they are all done, I really hate to start all over they took me a long time any suggestions?

Jennifer, the font you used on the programs ties them in with your Victorian elements.
