Does everyone get a save the date?

C.C., on March 24, 2016 at 7:21 PM Posted in Planning 0 17

We're planning on sending our save the dates out about 11 months in advance. Does everyone on your guest list get a save the date? We would of course send them to close friends and family, but there are people who we may not be close with still when the wedding gets closer. Friendships end, people drift apart, and once they receive a save the date they of course HAVE to be invited to the wedding no matter what. So I guess my overall question is: is it okay for someone who we're not super close with to receive an invitation but not a save the date??

Read the other thread about cutting guests after the fact. Only send them to out of town guests that you will absolutely be having at your wedding

Anyone who receives a save the date, must receive a wedding invite!

So if there's someone that you think you may not want to invite to your wedding, don't send them a save the date!

It's better to get a wedding invite to a wedding you never received a save the date for, than to receive a save the date and not an actual invite...

I'd just not do them. Honestly everyone out of town you'll be telling anyway if they're a must-have invite.

Unless you've hard cash in hand to pay off your wedding now then be careful with stds because you just don't know where you'll be financially 12 months down the line

Eta - I did them then had to go through my whole list to let everyone know we needed to put the wedding back a year!

UMMM. I just saw your date. You have over a year to send out SDT. I didn't send mine out till February. Just wait.

Only send to VIP guests...family you know you absolutely have to invite and your closest friends. The majority of our guests were OOT and we didn't send any STDs. If you're close to someone, you wedding date will come up in your regular conversation and they will make note of it if it's a priority for them.

@2016beachwedding all the money is set aside for the wedding. Everything.

Plus, our venue is all inclusive so the price is the same so long as we don't exceed 200 guests. It's not per head.

@Ololufe I'm aware of when my wedding is, but we're planning far in advance. Not planning on sending them out until September anyways, but just trying thinking ahead, thanks.

@sunniw thank you! That's what I was thinking, but I wasn't sure what the etiquette for that was.

We are only sending STDs to about half the list to save money. The ones I actually want to save the date.

Honestly, if you're not sending everyone save the dates, I wouldn't send them at all. They get posted on Facebook now, and I feel like it looks like they got b-listed if they got an invite but not STD.

Save the dates are sent six months in advanced. No sooner. Everyone gets a save the date of you send them. You don't get to pick and choose. We were going to be invited to a wedding (it was called off) where only out of town guests got std and people FLIPPED. They were so angry at her because they wanted one, but also cause they thought they weren't invited (like some of her family and his corps buddies). It was not pretty.

@Chrises that's what I was worried about! I don't want anyone to think they were unimportant. I may just do out of town guests and people who I know have incredibley busy schedules, that way no feelings get hurt.

@originalLaura I've heard multiple things about save the date timelines, I'm not totally sure when we'll send them. We have multiple out of the country guests too, so we're wanting to send them earlier. And that's what I was worried about with the STDs. I don't want anyone to think they were B listed or not invited. Do you think it's okay if I only send them to out of town guests and people who I know have veeeery busy schedules?

I would personally send a save the date to everyone, the only people not getting one are the ones who are a part of the wedding. I'm also sending mine out between 6-8 months in advance just because I know there's people who will be traveling and will need the time to save.

We used Save The Date and it was great. My friend recommended and it turned out to be an excellent advise. We received response from our guests within minutes.
