Does anyone have an I1 diamond ER?

Amanda, on April 3, 2016 at 3:13 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 17

Just wondering. Online advice columns treat I1 diamonds like demons coming to eat your soul, and i just don't believe they can really be that bad... What are your thoughts? If you have one, are you happy with it?

I think its important to look at the individual diamond vs the rating. It can make a huge difference where the inclusions are and what color they are. Also some settings make it easier to hide the inclusions.

Like the PP said, it all depends on the individual diamond itself. The larger diamonds with an I1-I3 ratings tend to show more of the inclusions. Also depends on the cut of the diamond, and the color. All the "four Cs" come into play with diamond quality.

ETA: I would also like to add that if the diamond is pretty and you like it, that's all that matters. If people ask specifics about your ring... Don't tell them! It's no ones business what color/clarity/carat your ring is.

My ring was a preset original (as in, they couldn't order another one, because it wasn't a design they mass made, unless it was completely custom made) so instead of selling me on the individual diamonds, we skipped all that "4 C's education" and went ahead without learning about the specific diamond set in the ring. We didn't see the specks until we got the paperwork that comes with the ring once it's paid off. I would have never guessed it was I1! It's sparkly and just darn gorgeous. The way they talk about I1 rings is kind of ridiculous, because I honestly can't tell the difference.

It really just depends on the diamond. You'd have to go look at them. You can look at ten of the same ring at a retail jewelry store in the mall and some will be better than others in the same diamond class. And then for what it's worth, I don't talk to anyone about what size/clarity or price my ring is. It's none of their damn business. Some girls are nosy gossipy beaches.

FSIL freaked out because she saw a defect in her diamond. One which nobody else could see and the jewelers said she wouldnt see. I dont know how she saw it, she didnt know it was there. She insisted it get fixed so her fiance spent a ton of money on a diamond he coulnt afford. Theyre now divorced. I really dont think anyone notices. If they do theyre not worth it

I guess people really care about this kind of thing?

Funny enough, I have an I1 diamond! It's a 1 ct. round cut and colorless. You can see the imperfection if you look for it in the right light at the right angle. Other than that? I don't really notice or care.

I agree that the 4 Cs are slowly becoming outdated. Especially as untraditional e-rings become more and more popular. Now-a-days, it's more about what they can charge you for the diamond (which is already super inflated).

What matters most is that you like your ring and it works for you. No one is going to ask you what clarity your ring is. And no one (who isn't obscenely rude) is going to comment even if they do see that tiny imperfection. I just wanted to comment that there are people who have "sub par" diamonds and love them regardless.

Not even sure what grade my is. When I saw this big beautiful gorgeous ring that was the last thing on my mind. As long as you love your ring (and your man) lol that's all that matters.

It only matters if you (or your heirs) ever want to sell it.

This ring is huge and beyond gaudy, I will keep my smaller diamonds, no matter what grade they are. Its from a local story a few weeks ago 12k ring worth $400k accidentally thrown away and found when they searched through tons of trash.

My diamonds are considered SI2-I1. The center stone has a small inclusion off to the side by the prong, so it isn't as noticeable. It's not noticeable from the top. Only the side and I have to look hard for it. Honestly, I love my ring! As long as you love your ring, that's all that matters!

Honestly, I have no idea what any of the 4 C's of my diamond are. FH bought it and I haven't seen any paperwork on it and I really don't care. I've been waiting a long time for him to be ready for marriage and that's all I care about.

I think as long as you are in love with your ring, who cares what the rating is. Especially if your fiancé picked it out!
