Does an event designer handle all the florals?

Taylor, on March 21, 2021 at 7:21 PM Posted in Style and Décor 0 11

Has anyone here had experience with and event designer. I'm still kind of confused on whats all entailed. Would you not need a florist anymore because they do all of the work? Or would you still need to buy a majority of the decor?

I’m not sure but I’d definitely ask exactly what they cover, what they provide & what else you need to purchase.

Many florists prefer to install their own flowers, and put it it in their contracts. Other florists see themselves as providers of flowers, for you and others to rearrange and position as you will. That should be in the contract. Ask is you are not sure. Some will arrange the flowers for a higher fee, not for a drop off. ... I have worked with Coordinators and DOC, and stylists. As far as I can figure, most see themselves as doing a little of everything, but little that is not directing others to do things. You need to put every and any thing you want done directly, item by item, in their contracts. Or they will be too busy receiving deliveries ay that time, to do flowers, and too busy with bridesmaids, to do music... There is no known set job description. And the biggest complaint everyone has with coordinators, is that they want to be elsewhere handling their priorities, when the bride or family wants something else. Set out your lists. You hire them, you do not follow them. Anything you want them to see to by doing, put in an active voice. Coordinator will receive flower delivery, and will place each arrangement as on the advance plan sheet. Yes. ( coordinator will see to flowers. No. She can take that to mean she will supervise, not do.) Also, supervising or directing or being with and cuing your bridal party is only necessary for 15 minutes a shift. But many think of themselves as chief in the bride's entourage, hanging with you
Most brides hire them to be elsewhere seeing to and doing things, independently, not delegating things to others.
Put what you want in your contract.

Good question! We had a florist and separate Event Designer. In my case, the event designer did a lit up monogram for us that our DJ designed, focusing on the electrical and lighting aspect. In our case, he could refer florists but did not take on the responsibility himself. Not sure if the title applies to all with other event designers so best to double check. Hope this helps ❤️

Our event design company is doing all of our floral and decor. I've had a phone conversation with them and seem to have it handled. I've looked at their work and they've seen my inspiration pics I can't wait to see what they come up with for my bouquet.

A florist does florals. An event designer is a fancy title for a full service planner who pick your vendors instead of just doing day of coordination. They are different positions

I have never heard of the title event designer. Is that basically your wedding planner? If so, they do not typically take care of your florals. Planners usually just help secure vendors, take care of rentals, and plan your day out. So you would still need a florist. I would ask what her/his services cover.

Thank you so much for the in depth response. I'm going to be scheduling a consultation with the event designer this week so I can really understand what all that she does. She mentions on her page florals so I didn't know if anyone else has dealt with a designer who may also do florals.

I'm planning on getting a separate month/day of coordinator regardless of the event designer. You are so right with making sure it's in the contract.

No that helps a lot! There have been some event designers I looked at where it looks like they do florals and through some further investigating you have to source it yourself like you mentioned.n This one though mentions floral design on her page. I have a consultation soon, so I'll be finding out more by the end of this week!

Nope, event designers don't do any planning, they design your whole event. It can range from full on designing like bringing rentals, florals and other decor in to create your vision. Or just helping you with consistent color palettes and sourcing linen.

I feel like a have a creative eye enough to create the "vision" however I'd like some assistance with implementing it, so I started looking at event designers. Whether I still had a designer or not I'd always get a wedding planner. The planner is usually separate. Unless they offer both services.

So there are some who do both! That's awesome! I like having it all with one vendor, or at least, that's what I was hoping to find with an event designer.

I love the idea of this one event designer that I've seen but I just worry that they do so much of the standard 'glam' and 'lux' wedding that what I'm thinking will be too different from that. We'll see during our consultation!
