Does a first look make the ceremony less important?

FMIL was telling FH and I how we really shouldn't do a first look because it is a once in a lifetime moment to have FH see me walking down the aisle. (FYI, no one asked her...lol). I agree with her I guess, but I feel like a first look would be better. Because then we can take photos before the ceremony and enjoy the rest of the evening with our guests (instead of us taking time to take photos between the ceremony and reception). What are you doing and why did you make the decision to do a first look or not do one?

We are not doing a first look. I suggested it recently as I do have pretty bad anxiety and I felt it might help. But he reminded me that my dream was always to have him not see me until I'm walking, and he'd like that too. I think he thinks I would regret not doing it how I envisioned it, which might be true. As far as anxiety I'm just gonna remember my breathing and also remember that everyone in that room loves me and wants to see me happy

I'm glad you decided to do a first look, Maui K! I think a first look is actually MORE special than seeing each other for the first time walking down the aisle, because a first look is much more intimate and you get some alone time with your soon to be husband/wife. It doesn't take anything away from walking down the aisle. The first look was my favorite part of my wedding day... after getting ready for hours apart and walking towards him for our first look, I was so giddy! And it was just the two of us (and the photographer and her assistant). It was such a wonderful moment I always recommend first looks!
