So we received the contract from the doc we met with. First off, they didn't list all the "duties" so I had to email them and ask they include the things we agreed upon as the contract states if it's not listed it will be subject to an extra charge. Second, & I need your guys help with this- I'm having a hard time understanding the wording.. Either I'm dense, or this contract (section c) is stating that they won't refund my money if they don't show up for the wedding. It does state they will make every attempt to send a replacement, but I still feel like the final line is saying even if they don't that they aren't liable. I did email them and expressed my concern and she had emailed back saying that we would be refunded all payments except for the deposit because that holds our date. While I understand it holds our date, they aren't technically "holding our date" if they don't show up and wouldn't have made money with another couple if an act of God occurred forcing them not to show.

If you like them and want to work with them, ask them to revise the contract. Worst that happens is they say no. Then you find someone else.

Retainers usually are non-refundable to cover their expenses up to the point that the contract is void.

So they made the change to the contract... I still don't know if I should book with them or not. They seemed to have no problem adjusting it but still..
