Do you need staff for a small wedding?

This is mostly preference. I read you need a staff member per 50 guests to serve the food. I have 30 guests, is it going to look weird if I don’t have one? We didn’t go with a traditional catering company, couldn’t afford it. We went with a restaurant that will deliver and set up our chafing dishes....

What do you think? Would you find it odd or off putting to not be served at a buffet for a small wedding?

No, they were shockingly neat, lol!! I, like you, do not mind people going for seconds or thirds, but could ya please leave some going through the first time? We also chose a restaurant that was well known for yummy food (I mean that would be why anyone chooses it, right?) so people were getting ready for a feast!! I say that as some hotels are known for "wedding food" which can be code for bland.

Are you hosting the reception at your house? That is how it sounds, and if that is a yes then 100% get servers to not just serve but clean up. Please do not ask your guests to do this nor should you. Your guests should not have to lift a finger that day, nor you or groom!! Smiley heart

Oh I absolutely hate wedding food. I’m a chef, I wanted to make my own food(but everyone told me no, lol) so we chose a restaurant with date night food we actually enjoy, who can accomodate food restrictions of some of my guests.
Nope, not having the reception at home. I just usually host holiday dinners. Our reception is at a gorgeous community center. I’m not opposed to cleaning, it’s what I do at the end of my shifts at work so it’s hard to get into the “but I’m the bride” mindset. I absolutely don’t want guests doing any work though.
Leaning towards hiring people at this point, the restaurant we ordered from didn’t have a staff option.

You were VERY wise to not cook your own food. These boards are littered with people who thought, "Geez I do this for a living, how hard can it be??" and have come back to say that it was the worst decision, ever. Too much prep work, too much stress, etc. Just be a bride!!! You should not feel like an employee at your own wedding and reception!

Yeah it would have been a disaster, the venue doesn’t have a kitchen in case something went wrong. I just abhor “wedding food”, especially “mixed vegetables”, I LOVE vegetables! I wanted a menu that celebrated ingredients. Luckily the restaurant we went with has tasty food and I’m optimistic! It just took a lot for me to let go because of how much bad wedding food I’ve eaten over the years.
