Do we really need a PA system for our outdoor wedding?

I am seriously starting to doubt that people will "party it up" at our wedding. I just don't think they will. I really do not want to spend $650 for a DJ only to have people end up leaving after the cake is cut. The only reason we were wanting a DJ instead of a band was because of needing a PA...

I am seriously starting to doubt that people will "party it up" at our wedding. I just don't think they will. I really do not want to spend $650 for a DJ only to have people end up leaving after the cake is cut. The only reason we were wanting a DJ instead of a band was because of needing a PA system for an outdoor ceremony. However, I want the chairs set up in a half circle so more people can be closer to us and we will have less rows (like pictured). I am also thinking we are only going to have 120 guests so it's not like the wedding is going to be huge. Do you think people will hear us just fine given the way we want to arrange seating? We want to put the chairs rather close to the small arch we will be wed under anyway so people can hear.

I officiate many outdoor weddings. I can project (I have 4 younger brothers -- good training)!

If there are more than 30-40 people they will not hear the B&G and will have difficulty hearing me even though I'm facing them.

With your set-up, I'd recommend the two of you and your officiant stand at either end (not in the middle circle of flowers). At least that way, your officiant won't have his/her back to half of the guests and neither will you and FH.

No matter what the set-up is, with 120 guests you definitely need at least 1 mic.
