Do we need place cards for long table?

JanissC., on February 26, 2018 at 10:58 AM Posted in Planning 0 7

Hey everyone, I need opinions and advice. Our wedding is a small wedding 30-40 ppl. We are doing just one long table, do you think we need place cards or let everyone sit wherever the want? Thanks for any advice!

IMO, yes, you should have place cards. Normally I don't think they're necessary if you assign tables, but if it's just one, long table, people will appreciate the guidance on where to sit. Plus, I'm sure if you and your FS are sitting at this table as well (as opposed to a sweetheart table) you have people in mind you'd prefer to sit closest to, like your parents or wedding party.

Also, long tables can cause a little confusion as far as "am I supposed to sit next to my SO or across from my SO?", especially if you have an odd number of guests.

Agree completely! My one experience at a long table wedding wasn’t exactly comfortable thanks to no assigned seating.

I love the look of the long tables, but it does limit discussions to your immediate neighbors. Because of that, I’d allow people to sit with those they feel comfortable with. Hope your day is wonderful!

OP can accomplish that while still assigning seats.

I had 40 guests and had place cards. I used long tables as well but it helped to break them up to maximize the space. I had 3 tables end to end on both sides of the room with the dance floor in the middle.

I agree it's best to use place cards. If you don't, there will likely be single seats left between some people, and some of the last guests to be seated will probably get split up.

    Thanks so much everyone!!

Follow up question: do you think is ok to only have place cards or do we need some sort of chart to give an overall idea where their seat is located? That way they don't have to go all around the table searching for their seat.
