Do tall centerpieces really get in the way....?

Do they keep guests from speaking across the table to one another? I thought I read or heard this before and the best man mentioned this also. But he also doesn't think I need floral centerpieces so I doubt him. Looking for real opinions because I've never been to a wedding with tall centerpieces.

One thing I distinctly remember about the last wedding I went to (my FH's brother's) was the tall and wide centerpieces - they were beautiful bouquets in wide vases. But, unlike the pictures on here, it wasn't possible to see through the vase and as such, I could not see the people on the other side of the table from me. Given that I remember that so vividly, I am trying to avoid that for my wedding.

Weareone0822: No, it doesn't look bad if all the tables have tall centerpieces. It doesn't look bad if a third of the tables have tall centerpieces, a third of the tables have low centerpieces, and a third of the tables have smaller, coordinating centerpieces with candles. Most of our brides have no idea how much those tall centerpieces cost. Depending upon how many tables you have, you can have 1/3 of them (or even 1/4 of them) set with tall pieces. Rely on your florist to look at the room and figure out where the tall ones should be placed. Remember, those tall centerpieces can be used during your ceremony. They can be transported to your reception tables after the ceremony. We always tell brides to use their ceremony pieces at their reception. As long as several styles of centerpieces are coordinated by color (like Marina's), it will work. I promise.

@centerpiece, thanks - I will remember the guard petal removal. And my color scheme is ivory and champagne with greens/greenery - neutral, but I'll have a dark chocolate brown in other places to balance it out. And I am going for that "romantic night in the garden theme". So my flowers will be shades of white, ivory and creams.
