Do rsvp cards need to go to everyone?

Morgan, on February 22, 2018 at 10:10 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 11

We're doing a destination wedding (Cancun) in October and I sent out the save the dates in December with a link to the website which already had all of the information. Since then we've had several guests RSVP online and book their room. Do I still need to send them RSVP cards to people who have RSVP'd already? Some RSVPd yes and some said no.

Maybe just continue using the online RSVP. Just put a link in your invite.

I would send them out still because not everyone might have a computer or tablet to rsvp. Plus you dont know if people would change their mind. Honestly up to you.

I really want to do that, but we invited 300 (FH has a huge family) and we're expecting about 120-150. I'm worried that if I don't send RSVP cards that are easy then the people who aren't coming won't RSVP and that could potentially be a lot of people. Do you think doing a fully online RSVP will work with older guests and guests who aren't attending? Especially the people we aren't close with?

I hear you. I only sent invites but really far out and guests were very greatful for the super early notice. In your situation, I get the weirdness of sending invites to rsvp es guests, but I think it’s generally assumed that ppl will get formal invites. Also, invites are much more formal than save the dates. So if you have a formal vibe then it’s def nevessary.

im personally strongly against printed save the dates- but people do need a lot of lead time these days!

im curious what other folks will respond!

If thats the case then just send them. Those who put 'no' may change their minds as well. Why leave it to chance, its best to make it crystal clear!

Holy crap you are expecting 150 to attend a DW in Mexico!! I've never heard of that good of a turnout. Keep us updated.

The DW i went to was like 20 people.

A friend of mine didn't send out any RSVP cards, but the invitation included the link to RSVP online and a phone number to call if guests didn't want to go online. He said so far he's only been getting calls from the grandparents and a couple other random older relatives.

I personally would give everyone RSVP cards. I just think it looks nicer.

To be honest if I was a guest and rsvp’ed online from the save the date and then got an rsvp card months later I’d be super confused. I wouldn’t know what to do. Do I fill it out again? Did you not get the first one? Do I fill it out online? Should I just not fill it out at all so you don’t get a double rsvp? I totally get having physical rsvp cards for older people. I would maybe just keep track of who already rsvp’ed and not send them a card with the invitation. Or at least in some way acknowledge you received the first one!

I think for the people who have already RSVPed on the website I will include a note that says "Thank you for your online RSVP. We can't wait to celebrate with you" instead of the actual RSVP card.

For all others, I will send an RSVP card with the option to mail or RSVP online.
