Do people still do the “something borrowed, something blue...” tradition?

Alyssa, on July 23, 2019 at 12:16 PM Posted in Planning 1 18
Hi all,
Just curious - are you doing the “something borrowed, something blue, something old, something new” tradition? Am I just welcoming bad luck if I don’t partake? It just seems outdated and unnecessary to me...but I’m not particularly superstitious. Anyone else in my boat?

I did it but it was moreso cus I thought it'd be fun rather than being traditional. You can totally opt out of it and it's ok!

People still do it. I don't feel an overwhelming need to do it. Overall I figure
    New: dress
Old & borrowed: bracelet my grandmother had, I'll borrow it from my mum
    blue: underpants! 😆
Overall I'd something blue is the hardest part, the rest kind of comes together on its own

I did the tradition...BUT I misplaced / lost my something blue, so my MIL put a blue paper clip on my boots, lol. Andddd, later realized I also forgot to put my sixpence in my shoe.

I will be doing it but I kinda just happened to be doing it without noticing.
Old: My E-Ring because it was my FMILs
    New: My dress
Burrowed: Necklace from my Mom that happend to go with the bracelet I will be wearing
Blue: The sapphire ring my late Grandfather gave to my Grandmother on their 25th wedding anniversary and then they gifted to me for my 16th birthday.

I'm doing it because I just happen to have everything.

Old/borrowed: my late grandmother's rosary in my bouquet

    Blue: shoes

    New: dress

I didn't completely. I had blue flowers in my bouquet-florists choice. I had a piece of my mom's wedding dress tucked in my dress. I did not have anything borrowed. Everything I was wearing was new. Nobody had anything I would want to borrow. We're married nonetheless. No bad luck so far. 🤷‍♀️

I am not doing it, I agree with you that its a little outdated. And to me, seems a little pointless. My mom does want me to use my great grandmother's wedding band, but only for FH to put on my finger during the ceremony and then after I can switch to my own. I think that's a little weird but my mom doesn't ask for too much and this would make her and my grandmother happy so whatever.

I'd like to just because it's fun, but I wouldn't worry about bad luck.

I’m doing it just for fun. My garter has the something blue in it. And the something old and something borrowed I haven’t a clue yet but I have a couple months to figure it out lol

I don't think it is necessary, but I think it is fun so I am planning to do it.

Plus a penny in the shoe

I am not. I think it's silly. Out of everything to need to pay attention to and care about that is not one of them for me. I don't even think it's fun instead of just the tradition behind it. I couldn't care less. Don't worry if you don't do it!

I'm trying to. I'm just missing the something borrowed. I don't have many close friends to borrow anything from, so i'm not sure what i'll use

I am doing it! But only because I really want to wear blue Badgley Mischka shoes and blue isn't at all in my color scheme.

I don't plan on going out of my way to do it. My mum has this sixpence, that has been in the family for I think four generations, that clips into your shoe and happens to be blue that I would borrow. Then my shoes are new. So it all works out.
