Do officiants and other vendors get a formal invitation?

Elizabeth, on October 16, 2016 at 12:26 PM Posted in Planning 0 14

I've heard conflicting things on this, but one opinion is that those working the actual reception don't get a formal invitation (just ask what they want to eat) and those working prior to the reception, such as officiant, DOC, etc. get an invite. Is this true? Or should they all get an invite?

I ask for an invite only because I use it in some images. It has always been given to me the day of. It's an extra copy or someone else's and is returned to them that same day. If you contact each vendor confirming time, date, location and meal in another paper/hard copy form, that is just a good. IMO, vendors received official invites to have a record of the day's events so there would be no miss understanding. Now a days, we have emails to go back to should there be a problem.

Officiants should. It confirms all the info for us and gives us a clue of your style. I think the DOC should, also photographer (they usualy want to take photos of them.

Not to high jack here, but what about the MUA? I wasn't thinking I needed to extend an invite to them.

And if my DOC is also my venue coordinator, give her one anyway?

Officiant yes. My DOC was a family friend, we had the wedding at the church my dad was the pastor at for 20 plus years so we went her one separately as well. But the DJ and caterer, nope.

They only time I have received an invitation as a DJ was when the couple was a coworkers son. They were like family. We even had the same last name! lol

I didn't send my vendors one, as they already had the information for where the venue was, and what time they would need to be there. Then again, I didn't invite our vendors to the actual wedding.. so maybe it depends on whether or not you are planning on them coming to the wedding.

That's a great question. Photographers can go either way. Most venues prefer to serve the vendors at the end of the meal. In our opinion this takes too long.

We like to eat at the same time as the bride & groom because that's the only time they don't want to be photographed! If we are served at the end, its about a total of 40 minutes with no pictures (20 while newlyweds eat & 20 while photographers eat).

We ask all of our brides & grooms to speak with their venue and ask to be served dinner at the same time.
