Unpopular opinion here but for me personally I cannot stand any thing Bruno Mars so anything by him will be a no for me. Also my divorced parents wedding song (can't help falling in love - Elvis) will not be played even though I love the song. While I don't really like the chicken dance song, I'll allow it because it is quite cute for the kids to dance to LOL. and that's pretty much it.
I HATE the chicken dance song, so it's on the list. My FH doesn't like any group dance songs because he's not from the States and always feels a little left out, but they're so good at getting people on the dance floor. But, it's his wedding too so we're asking to skip over them.
Great idea! Spotify is an awesome resource! I wanted to stick with a vintage playlist, but we're learning salsa for our first dance so once I started adding reggaeton, that kind of went out the window. So now I just have a few requests and I'm deferring to the DJ for everything else. But now we're trying to figure out if there are any super annoying songs we're forgetting that the DJ might think are crowd pleasers.

Unpopular opinion as well, that I was criticized for in another similar post to this. But I do not like Beyonce. So no music will be played by her. Other than that my only other request is to try to keep the music clean until later; I'm a little bit more conservative in that regard. After the kids go up to bed then go ahead and play whatever.
We have a few so not okay. Taylor swift just because I don’t like her, a few ex songs that don’t need to be played. The chicken dance and YMCA are also on that list. We are having our guests put in a song request on the RSVP and putting those on the do play list so they will get excited when their song comes on!
We have Queen on our do not play list because my FH’s father hates them and we don’t love them so we don’t feel like we HAVE to play them. We also have Stairway to Heaven on our do not play because there is a very sad connection to my FH’s family with that song. And then I added Wagon Wheel by anyone who sings it to the do not play simply because I cannot STAND that song. Otherwise pretty much everything else is fair game lol. For our must plays, we are doing my FH’s parents’ wedding song and a tribute song to my grandfather and FH’s grandparents. Haven’t quite decided what those will be yet.
Honestly, the Cha Cha Slide and Cupid Shuffle might be on my "do not play" list. Every time I hear those songs at an event I cringe a little and ALWAYS have to do the dumb dance otherwise I get guilt tripped...
My DJ gave me a list of songs often played at weddings to checkmark which ones I wanted (YMCA, cha cha slide, electric slide, cupid shuffle, etc.) Hilariously, it sort of became a "do not play" list 😂 lol
I vetoed all boy bands from the 90s (...I may have been chronically unhip in high school, and I still dislike that music), we both vetoed Michael Jackson and R. Kelly (triggering for myself and some guests), and then we discussed what we liked with our DJ.
DH wanted to veto the Spice Girls, but I have a deep and abiding love for their corniness, so I got one SG song.
