Do Not Play List

Mandi, on June 29, 2019 at 7:42 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 1 14

I'm slowly chipping away at my to do list this weekend. And while I'm nagging my fiance to help me move a couch, and give me a list of the friends he has that he wants to invite to our wedding, I'm also working on our DJs website. I picked our DJ because my fiance wanted a lot of control over the music that is played at our reception. And we get an online catalog to look thru that we can pick "You Have to Play This Song" and the "DO NOT PLAY THIS SONG".I skipped on over to the Do Not Play List and immediately added Single Ladies by Beyonce. I just refuse, and since I am adamantly opposed to doing a bouquet and garter toss, I REALLY don't want it played. So I'm curious, what is on your Do Not Play List?Is there any specific song you absolutely despise and do not want to hear on your wedding day? And any particular reasoning behind it?

For me I had guests request songs ahead of time so I played those during the reception but I mainly had do not play list of artists rather than songs. And I noted nothing inappropriate since there are children there

Old Townn Road!!!! I hate it. My fh thinks it’s funny to start singing it because I get so angry when I hear it. I told our dj do not play under any circumstance no matter who asks even if it’s the groom. He would think he’s being funny, I’d probably start flipping tables.

There is specific group that I won't name here that I am placing on my do not play list. This group was very popular and their songs are considered classic but, UGH, their music drives me crazy and I want no parts o it! LOL! As to anything else on the list, let me just say this. If it is not on my list of songs to play or in the genres I want to hear, then everything else is on my do not play list!

Oh how funny! That’s one of my MUST play songs. It’s the only one my whole family dances to and it’s become a tradition at the family weddings. Can’t wait to chicken dance!!!

I also will be adding Beyoncé single ladies to the do not play list. Anything Beyoncé actually is banned. And chicken dance, possibly cotton eye joe, YMCA so far

We haven’t really thought about this too much, but we immediately knew what our first song would be... Rocky Top (the song The University of Tennessee plays all the time that isn’t actually their fight song). FH & I are both born and raised in TN but are both huge Alabama fans. There will be a ton of UT fans at our wedding, and we despise that song (being big rivals with UT) so I wanted to make sure it wasn’t played because I know people will request it!

For me I’d will definitely be no line dancing or country. Not our style nor our crowds

I hate that song too! It played at a bar recently and everyone was dancing and I just stood there the entire time. I refuse to participate if that song is playing. Smiley xd

For me, I'm mostly banning artists/bands as a whole, rather than specific songs. I'm an 80s girl, and love 80s music for the most part. But there is a whole sub-genre in there that I couldn't stand back then, and can't stand it now!! Some examples are: Depeche Mode, Tears for Fears, Modern English, Flock of Seagulls--NOPE!!

We'll be doing lots of other 80s music, plus classic rock, some heavy metal, some country, some rap (clean), and some oldies too, like Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Temptations, Marvin Gaye, etc.

This will be my second wedding so the “important dance” songs from my first wedding are on our do not play list. My fiancé is not a fan of the chicken dance, ymca or any of those line dancing songs. Our dj used to be a radio dj so he has a good understanding of music and what gets people up and dancing.
