Do Not Play list

Ashley, on October 17, 2021 at 3:56 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 1 14
So I’m looking for thoughts on the do-not-play list. If a song is pretty much a no-brainer (WAP for example) is it necessary to include, or does it sort of go without saying?

Maybe you can be general like no sexual or explicit lyrics etc

We asked our DJ not to play anything with sexual or explicit lyrics, and no Maroon 5 or Cardi B.

We too had a “do not play” list and I would suggest samples just in case a guest tries to request it 👍

If you don’t make it clear to the dj what is off limits, they will play those songs throughout the night as the crowd responds to the music. That includes when requests are not allowed.

We didn't do a do not play list. Our DJ asked, but there weren't any songs that we were completely opposed to. My wedding had children present, so we had discussed making sure things were child friendly, and that covered it.

If you don't want it, tell them! Communication is key

We arent listing things that are obvious (breakup songs, really explicit, etc) but we are including a do not play list of songs we can't stand, like cha cha slide, chicken dance, Happy, etc

I'd probably tell your dj because that song is very popular. They would probably play the clean version

We didn't have a do not play list. & we also didn't have to tell our DJ not to play anything explicit or anything, he's been doing it long enough that he knew what was acceptable and unacceptable at a wedding.

We told our DJ no cheesy organized dance songs, like the macarena, YMCA, etc..

Also no Celebration. That song makes me want to remove my ears.

So pretty much nothing that you would hear at a roller rink. LOL

L.O.L. We had a do not play list and chicken dance was on it (along a with some others) and somehow it still came on halfway through the reception?? Later found out my uncle slipped the DJ a twenty so he would play it for my younger cousins 😂

Yea I think the best option is to just run it by the DJ and see how he recommends I approach it.

Yikes @the clean version…it’s even worse than the dirty version!😂😂😂

The hokey pokey at a wedding? That’s another one I’d think could be left off the list since any decent wedding DJ should know better. But I guess better safe than sorry 😊.
