Do not play list

Michelle, on July 24, 2021 at 8:11 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 17
Are you banning any songs or artists? If so, which ones? We’re there any “inappropriate” songs played at other weddings you have attended and did the guests care?

Anything by Rascal Flats or anything that sounds like them! I cringe each time I hear them!

We requested no line and/or group dances, no Taylor Swift, and no Lizzo. I'm sure I'll get some hate for that, but I can't stand either of them. 😂

We aren't banning specific artists, but FH is totally against the following group dances:

-The Wobble (We have a lot of older people coming to the wedding . . . yeah, no.)

-Chicken Dance (I hate this one, too)

    -Electric Slide

-Conga Line (It's CoVID time, people.)

    -Gangham Style

    -Dollar Dance

We banned Benny and the Jets. My husband's name is Benjamin or Ben for short and he hates the nickname Benny and everyone knows this, but a group of his friends play it just to tease him so it was the one and only song on our do not play list.

No group line dance songs. We’re having a “seaside chic” cocktail style reception on the hotel’s rooftop overlooking the ocean. So those tupe of dance don’t fit the vibe at all (plus I can’t stand them)

We have banned all Queen songs because my FH's father cannot STAND Queen and we don't personally love them, so we don't mind excluding them. We also banned Stairway to Heaven because it's a sentimental song to people on his side and we don't want to make anyone upset. I banned Wagon Wheel by Darius Rucker because it makes me cringe whenever I hear it. Otherwise, I think pretty much everything else is fine.

I do know that my best friend banned Pony by Ginuwine for her wedding day and for some reason the DJ still played it. She was a little upset but the older guests who may not have enjoyed it didn't seem to notice, so she got over it quick as she wasn't going to let one song ruin her day.

The only song on our do not play list was I want it that way. I’m a huge Backstreet Boys fan and this is their most cliche/popular song and I didn’t want to hear it, lol. I knew that if the DJ knew I was a fan he’s playing it so I made sure to say no! We did the Macarena, electric slide, and I think the wobble. My guests got up and danced. While I know they’re not everyone’s taste, they were a lot of fun!

It will be all radio edits for sure - lots of the guests are conservative christians and I want them to feel comfortable, and figure radio edits will cut down on any too-explicit lyrics. I grew up not being aloud to listen to any music other than hymns so I don’t want to shock anyone too much, having alcohol will already be a bit of a new thing for some.
    No group dances for sure.

I did this but with Don't Stop Belivin' By Journey! I'm a huge Journey fan and I can't STAND the song cause its so over played when they have so many other options to choose from.

I also banned all R.Kelly, but other than that We're open to whatever.

    Absolutely.

i had certain artists i do not support and so i banned the playing of it.

i also told the DJ that the songs need to be appropriate because there were children and minors at my wedding
