Do my own make up??

Elisa, on August 10, 2019 at 12:35 PM Posted in Hair and Makeup 0 10
So I've fallen into a pickle. I've ran out of time to find a make up person possibly. My best friend has offered to do my makeup (she's good at applying it) however I'm pretty average at applying my own I'm not great. I'm horrible at knowing what foundation to buy, tips and tricks, etc. What is the best way to learn what works? YouTube? Help please!!!

Are you set on doing your own makeup? If not you can get makeup done at places like Sephora or MAC.

If you you want to do it yourself I’d start by hitting up a makeup counter (Sephora, MAC, or Ulta) and getting them to match your shades and make recommendations. It’s important to know, though, makeup is not cheap. If you are starting from scratch just the basics (concealer, foundation, mascara, liner, blush, highlight, eyeshadow, and brushes) could easily run you $300-$400.

Also, if you want to do your own makeup find a look and practice it a few times so you feel confident in your technique.

Thank you good idea! I have make up; I wear it regularly. I just wanted that extra fancy "air-brushed, contoured, fabulous look". Unfortunately I live out in Hood River. Closet town that has those stores is Portland an hour away 😕

If your area isn’t in a major city you may be able to find a MUA still! My cousin got married in a more suburban/rural area and I was able to book hair and makeup two weeks out (I forgot haha oops).

Otherwise, if you do it yourself practice practice practice! Also practice putting on false lashes. Those things are magic and getting them on takes finesse

I used to be a pro at fake lashes! Haven't done them in so long, was just going to go with salon lashes that stay on for a few weeks. I guess I've always had trouble with finding a really great foundation and continuing my nose. My best friend is great at it. We just need to find me better foundation...

If you’d like a recommendation, I just got the Fenty Pro Filt’r foundation and it’s like having a pre-Facetuned face 🙃

YouTube! But try to watch someone’s channel who has similar skin type to you. You can find out usually by watching a few videos, the YouTube will mention if skin is oily/dray.

If you’re doing your own go to Sephora and have them match you for foundation. They’ll give you a sample (or you can just buy some) and watch YouTube videos to learn techniques. I’ve leveled up on my makeup skills just by doing that

Right!? I've been doing that more lately now that I'm realizing beauticians are all booked up on my date. Thanks!

Yes, thanks... I think I just need to be more proactive in foundation sampling... I get lazy about that!
