Do it yourself

Is it a great thing to plan your wedding on your own or should you hire a wedding planner? What can they do that you can't do yourself?

Lol you’re so right. I’m planning everything myself. I do have my bestfriend helping me. The venue we chose is doing everything except major decorating so I’m having my grandma take care of that since she specializes in decor. Everyone have a deadline to rsvp if they don’t sadly we will remove them. We want organization for our big day and not people doing w/e they want

    Hi and Congrats!

FH and I are planning a domestic destination wedding so we made the decision to hire a (DOC) Wedding Manager for our entire weekend. We are doing all the leg work until our big day but she will be taking over that weekend so we don't have to worry about anything. I would definitely recommend one if you aren't using an all inclusive wedding venue or if you have multiple events happening.

    Good Luck!

I have a wedding planner but honestly I feel like I could have saved the money and done a lot of it myself and used the money elsewhere.

There is nothing a planner can do that you can't, if you are organized, flexible enough to consider multiple ways of doing things ( so you do not obsess on things out of budget,) able to lay out a general budget sheet and an expenses one, and make tradeoffs so when you overspend in one area, you underspend in others, balance the budget.
There is nothing hard. Until less than 20 years ago, no one but the rich, or celebrities, used professional wedding planners. Like all having pro makeup, doing a lot online, and buying little gifts for everyone, and the idea that a bride can be as selfish as she wants to be on " her day", these things are heavily promoted because they make money. But none are necessary, and the "selfish is okay" attitude drives people to spend too much and alienate people. And truthfully, some people use wedding planners to "make things happen" that are not so nice. In the end, it means going over everything multiple times, since you make decisions, and everything must be told to a planner, then approved by you, before moving on. I know a few who could afford it, had fabulous results, but all had big budgets. And some with budgets large or medium, who fired them ( had to pay fee anyway) because they made problems between bride and groom, because one of them felt left out. And B and G had wanted to make decisions together. And often there are issues with MOB and MOB if you get a planner. If you have the skills, and know what you want, and can at some point say, I like this, move on to the next thing, then there is nothing you cannot easily find out how to do. Most planners set a minimum around $2000 and a 20,000 wedding budget minimum. And value their hourly rate. Not as many hours as you think for the money. I recently planned a wedding for someone living out of the country, a cousin, only here 2 months before the wedding. And for a friend who is blind, marrying a busy father of 3. If not me ( free to them) I would have said both should absolutely use a planner. They have a place.

Hey Lady Congrats. Here's my thought. If you can afford it and if you are having a larger wedding I say go for the planner. If you're like me and are having a smaller wedding 60-70 people and you are a bit of a perfectionist (lol) I'd say you and some of your bridal party do it. It's great bonding time and you can flex your creative muscles. For me, my fiance and I have 8 kids between us 2 of which will be already in and going to college so money is tight but we want t have a nice wedding so I can't afford a wedding planner to execute my ideas. I and my MOH will be doing the decor and working with my day of coordinator and her staff to lay out the decor the way I want. I hope that helps you.

I was planning on day coordinator but they were so expensive I finally decided to do it on my own. It wasn't hard at all and it was fun. I am a busy gal as I work in healthcare but I was still able to do it. With the pandemic perhaps it would have been easier to have someone, but I think they charge too much. I would rather us as a couple enjoy that for something toward what we really want. i was willing to pay a particular amount but they wanted like $**** and that is how much the caterer would be with my wedding being small I felt like for a small wedding it wasn't worth it. For a large wedding I can see how it might be beneficial though, but not this girl I am frugal I suppose. i really wanted to do it but with the costs of everything I figured out it was best for me to forgo the planning and coordinator.
