Do-It-Yourself airbrush makeup kits

Melissa, on April 11, 2010 at 2:23 AM Posted in Planning 0 5

So, I have been pricing professionally done airbrush makeup, I have only found one place a few miles from my house, and they are charging $250! It includes a trial run, but I still think its a little pricey!

Im wondering if anyone out there has used one of those air brush kits you can buy yourself and do at home. I found one on the HSN for $159 which includes a starter kit! Is it as easy to apply as they make it seem? I normally do wear make-up, but have never tried an airbrushed type.

I can't vouch personally, I've had the same thought process but looking over reviews online and from the few people I've spoken to who have tried various ones, the opinions are extremely varied. I'm really not sure what to think. Some seem to love it and some say they work terribly [clog, isn't even, doesn't stay on...] And it doesn't seem to be all about one brand vs another.

HSN usually has a pretty good return policy, which seems like a good idea since its hard to tell ahead of time if it will work for you. I would also think it would take some practice to get good at it--from what I've seen at Sephora with their Temptu system, it doesn't feel very intuitive.

I would say buyer beware. You need to know how far to shoot as well as color matching and dexterity. They make it sound inticing because companies love to get paid. A real makeup artist with a pro machine (The ones they sell are not professional grade) makes all the difference! Good luck

Sephora and QVC have the Temptu airbrush system. Temptu makes products for professionals. It is more expensive than the one at HSN and majority of reviews are quite good.

One thing I don't like about airbrush machines, is you can't use your favorite makeup. They is only certain makeup that can be used. I know people that have used airbrush and had reactions to product. This is one of my biggest concerns and why I am doing my own makeup.

I really don't know about quality..but if the HSN DIY kit is 159 it seems completely worth it to spend 250 on a professional who also offers a trial..

I have the Luminess machine and I love it. To me it's been well worth the investment.
