Do I tip the woman who is doing my alterations?

Runawaybride, on December 19, 2016 at 6:05 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 14

Hi! Is it customary to tip your alterations professional? If so, is 15-20% acceptable? If it matters, I'm not going through a bridal shop. The woman altering my dress works independently and has her own alterations business. I found her through a local Facebook group for brides and she has stellar reviews. Clueless as to what's custom, and don't want to embarrass myself Smiley smile Thank you!

In my experience, tipping your seamstress is not necessary. But if they were truly awesome and you do wish to tip them, anywhere from $20-40 is acceptable. Mine was difficult to communicate with, and the job mediocre, so I did not think to tip her.

I tip everyone who provides a service for me. Someone altering the most important gown of my life will get a tip. It would probably be somewhere in the $40 to $60 range.

If she does not own the shop, I would tip her

It never even occurred to me to tip her...but she owns her own business and works out of the basement of her house so for that situation I don't think it was necessary.

Never thought about it before. I have a seamstress I have used for several dresses in the past and never tipped but they were $20 jobs. I will budget that in!

Depends on if she is the sole proprietor but nothing wrong with extra $$ if she does a fabulous job!
