Do i really need sound system for wedding ceremony? (outdoor & multi-lingual)

Jane, on February 13, 2020 at 8:54 AM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 0 11

I am getting married this summer and I need y'all's opinion on sound system.

Assuming there are 80 people for an outdoor wedding, would I really need a sound system just for 30 minutes?

The ceremony will be held in English about but 70% people don't speak English as their first language.

We are on a tight budget and thinking about making a booklet in three different languages (including our vows and the officiant's script).

If so, would sound system really necessary? I need your wisdom.

It would be a necessity for me, but if you don't care if your guests can hear the ceremony or not, that's up to you. What will you do about ceremony music?

I don't think it's gotta be a "sound system" but you can just get a good microphone at best buy or Amazon. For music bring a Bluetooth speaker and play the music from a playlist or app on from your phone.

I do care but the price for the sound system jumps from 400 to 900.

Music might be played from acoustic guitar.

What kind of microphone can I use without an amp?

There all over the Internet. Portable mics that do not need amps.

The main issue is your guests hearing you. Even with 80 people you also have to take into account other noises (wind etc.) and how far away everyone is. I like the idea of an amp less microphone

Without amplification, I'd assume most guests will not be able to hear anything that is going on (including an acoustic guitar) outside. I understand there is a cost, but if you don't have some type of amplification you need to be prepared for the fact that most guests won't hear. For me, reading a script of what's going on would not be a good alternative. (I understand you are also working with different languages; ideally, you'd have multiple microphones and an interpreter.)

I think it's necessary unless you all and your officiant are literally that loud enough or you're in a venue that can echo the sound

For outdoor I would get a sound system unless you don't mind others not hearing your ceremony. If you don't mind, then skip it!

We're getting married in a chapel so we will not be using a sound system since our officiant can project his voice and it echos nice so no one will struggle to hear Smiley smile

When we were discussing sound systems and the potential for needing one, we looked on Amazon and found a cheap-ish karaoke system that came with a speak and microphone for I think $85! Got good reviews on it!

We are having an outdoor wedding and my FMIL found a speaker at coscto for aboug $150 that's going to work really great for what we need! (https://www.costco.com/ion-pathfinder-3-bluetooth-portable-speaker-with-wireless-qi-charging.product.100486102.html) It's definitely up to you, but I would advise getting something. You never know if it'll be a windy or noisy day, and it's good to have something to project.

I've been to outdoor weddings without some type of sound system and it's really sad when you can't hear anything. It makes the whole thing sort of confusing and not really that meaningful. If I were you I would prioritize finding and paying for a solution, ESPECIALLY with the potential language issues you mention.
