Do I really need 2 garters?!

Kelly, on January 31, 2015 at 9:03 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 10

I get why a bride would purchase the set: one to keep and one to toss. But really, what do you do with the one you keep? It's not like I'm having it framed or anything! It would be kept in a box that I will never go through. Do I really need it?

I don't understand what the person who catches it is suppose to do with it. I'm only buying one (FH favorite team and its a surprise) and plan to give whoever catches it a $10 gift card and keep the garter for ourselves. I haven't decided what to do with it yet. Maybe a shadow box.

I bought a set. One to keep and one to toss. I'm saving a lot of things from my wedding. I'm buying and old foot locker, to put everything in, so one day my children and grandchildren will have a neat box of momentos to go through. I don't have any tangible items belonging to my grandmothers who are no longer here, i want my granchildren to have things of mine from such a special day. I'm a sentimental fool though Smiley winking

If you don't want it then don't get it.

I bought one garter, not a set, just one. We didn't do a garter toss. I still have mine, but like you said it just sits in a drawer not being looked at. I might bring it out one day if I want to wear it for my husband.

    If I didn't need a something blue I wouldn't have bought it.

You NEED very few things for a wedding. If you don't want something don't get it. Simple as that.

I'm not a very sentimental person when it comes to tangible items. But, I can see the value in it for someone else. It could be my daughter's something borrowed. I'm not doing the whole "something..." but my daughter(s) might want to. I like the idea of giving a gift card instead of letting them keep it. Perhaps I'll do that and I will keep a box of wedding stuff.

I'm super into "no-clutter" so we're just getting one. I'm not one who is big for momentos. If you don't care about having it to save, then just get one. You don't NEED a second. It's really more of a personal choice thing Smiley smile

I had two for my first wedding. One to keep, and one to toss. 10 years later, I ended up throwing it out. Prior to that, and had sat in a box. I'm not doing it this time

I am only wearing one that's kinda cheap for the toss. I don't see the need to keep one.

You don't need it, of course. Especially if you are not sentimental. I plan to use mine in getting ready pictures, and then display it in a shadow box after the wedding. I'm having my bouquet preserved so I'm not sure if I'll put it in a shadow box with my bouquet, or in a separate shadow box with my invitation, and other momentos.

I made two out of fabric I had from the dress. One FH is going to put on his rear view mirror the other is to toss.
