Do I need to have place cards?

MsRiahToMrsP, on May 16, 2017 at 4:29 PM Posted in Planning 0 8

Do I need to have place cards at the tables for my guests at the reception or is it done to simply have a breakdown of who sits at what table and have table numbers?

We are only doing escort cards that tell guests what tables they are seated at and letting them choose their specific seat. We didn't want to choose the seats too closely, but wanted to give our guests some direction and make sure that specific groups were guaranteed to sit with people they know.

    Table assignments are fine.

Table assignments is enough! You don't have to assign individual seats if you don't want to!

Are you serving a plated meal?

You need to have something that indicates what table guests are expected to sit at. That can be escort cards or a seating chart written on a poster. The place cards are typically to indicate which spot at the table is reserved for that person, which is not necessary as long as the tables are reserved.

I ordered escort cards with guest's names along with the table they're sitting at. It will be set up on a table right outside the entrance to the room where the reception is being held.

If you do a seating chart with table assignments that'll be enough and you can skip escort cards

If no escort cards, you need to at least have a seating chart. We did name tags at the tables and a seating chart at the entrance.

You can do a seating chart or escort cards that lists their table numbers if you want to only assign tables. I recommend arranging them alphabetically by last name, NOT by table number - this makes it easier for guests to find themselves.

You only need place cards at each table if you want to assign specific seats at each table.

Some people don't know the difference between "place cards"

and "escort cards." There is a difference. Place cards are already on the tables assigning your exact seat, Escort cards are designed to guide you to your table.
