Do I have to order my 16X20 bridal pic from my photographer?

FutureMrs.Girlinghouse, on April 28, 2010 at 10:56 PM Posted in Planning 0 17

My photographer said it's 30 dollars for a 16x20 pic. Considering this is without a frame (at least I'm pretty sure). I thought I could maybe get it done myself at walmart or something but the biggest I see there is 8x10. Is this a normal price? If not, where can I go to get it cheaper?

Try Costco. They have a 16 x 24 poster size photo for $25.00

Im sure Sams CLub would have something similar.

i wouldn't go to Walmart, its bound to be disatraoues- spelling

Also $30.00 for a 16 x 20 isn't bad really. You can then frame it yourself. You may just get it through your photographer. he'll probably throw in a discount.

Thanks. It just doesn't seem right to me since an 8x10 at walmart is like 3 bucks....I guess if its going to be 25 somewhere else, I might as well pay the 30.

A 16x20 is $6 at Sam's Club. Do you have permission from your photographer to get your pictures reprinted? Many places will NOT reprint anything that looks professional without a photographer's consent form.

I personally did a custom package with my photographer. I didn't want Wallet pictures or Enlargements. I wanted a little more time, over 100 custom edited fine art images; Disc with 400 images. I will re-print if I need anything with Online Photo companies. There are many good ones with great pricing and Coupons!

    SnapFish.com charges $14.99 for 16x20 Poster - http://www.snapfish.com/snapfish/helppricing. They also often have coupons ranging from 25% to 50% off - http://www.wow-coupons.com/view-merchant.php?Store_Name=SnapFish.com&Id=282.

You can also do Kodak Gallery (also coupons); PhotoWorks.com, Shutterfly.com.

$30.00 for a professionally processed 16x20 photo is actually quite a good deal, especially if it comes on a matte for that price or if they will at least mount it on foam board for you depending on how you plan to frame it. Comparing that to what you will get from a retail store or discount club the image quality will be far better from the photographer, assuming they are using a professional processor or have their own professional grade equipment. Most retail processing equipment will be lower resolution and lesser quality photo paper as well. Then again if quality is not a major concern saving a little on the photo might give you more to spend on the frame. Good luck!

For starters do have the copyright relese from your photographer. If you do then you can do it at a walmart for like $7.00 (thats the prices out by me in IL.)you would have to go to a "dry lab" walmart for it but they would beable to do it in the one hour.

R&J just to let you know I work at walmart in the photolab and at my store we acctualy know what we are doing and we take care of our coustomers.I am sorry if you didnt have a good shoping expereince with your walmart photo center.

I'd pay the 30! I work in a studio, and we charge $100 for an unframed 16x20! That's a good price in my opinion!

$30 is CHEAP for a professionally printed photo. Trust me, the quality difference is HUGE. If the Photographer won't release the copyright, then you have to go through them anyway. It's illegal for Costco, Sam's Club, Wal-Mart and other places to print copyrighted images. I wish I could show an example of the differences, but I can't find anything online. You can absolutely tell the difference just by looking at it.

Also know that the larger the photo, the more obvious the printing quality is, so keep that in mind. You can frame it yourself for less (try Michaels). A framed 16X20 typically runs a couple hundred (professionally), but you get what you pay for.

If your photographer granted you printing rights, then you could have it printed where ever you like.

$30 for a professionally printed and mounted image is actually very reasonable. Make sure your photographer mounts the image on foam board or mat board. Any print larger than 8x10 should be mounted before being framed to ensure it remains flat in the frame. Larger prints tend to sag or warp after a while if they a not mounted, especially cheaper thin prints.

My FIL is a wedding photographer & really likes SmugMug, but $30 for that size print isn't bad at all, especially because it's a wedding photo that you're going to want to keep forever. I'd pay the $30 for it. If it weren't a wedding photo, then I would use a cheaper avenue.

When interviewing photogs, one lady had said that after a certain size, she would perfer that she print them as the color of the ink she uses is different than say what wal mart/foto source/etc uses and the colors could some out different than the picture (or something like that) I can't rmeber the exact conversation or naything, but I do remeber what she explained made sense, for 30 bucks I would just get it done from the photog, theres always a risk that a photo center might print it an you're not satisfied with it..that's my logic..

Thanks for all the help! she is getting me a release form so I could print it from wherever I chose. I just don't understand why it would be a diferent picture quality if its professionally edited already? But from what all of you are saying, I think I'm going to go ahead and order from her. I'm in between a 16x20 or 11x14. Would the 11x14 be too small? I figured I'd be more likely to hang that in my house or somewhere afterwards.
