Do DJs just not answer email?

OldFashionedBride, on April 21, 2014 at 5:35 PM Posted in Planning 0 23

So frustrated. Before I spend time on the phone, I'd like to know if some DJs are even available for my date and what their pricing structure is (if not on the website). If they don't answer email now, how can I expect them to be responsive if I were to hire them? ugh. I'm not even having a big dance party (Sunday late afternoon wedding)....they might just drive me to iPod it. OK...had to rant a tiny bit. :/ thanks. And if anyone has ideas....

I had to eliminate about 30 vendors that provide various services due to them not responding via e-mail. It is not practical for me to engage in phone conversations because of my job (I cannot use the phone when I am working for personal stuff). So, I used e-mail to ask for availability and prices. I gave them two days to respond - if nothing, I moved on.

My thought: if they don't answer email, they don't want the business.

PS: we're going iPod... and we couldn't be happier! Smiley smile

    OMG bad vendor.

1st DJ-gave me pricing in, she responded every 2-3 days, finally I asked her to draw up a contract and send it to my email, NO RESPONSE. We were communicating through FB chat so I know she read it. I sent one more response to follow up, she AGAIN read it and didnt respond.

    2nd DJ- simply stopped responding.

These vendors need to get their shhllllt together lol. That is very unprofessional, if you dont want to do the work, simply say it.

Oh man. I emailed a DJ at the beginning of February and they had a guarantee on their website that they would respond within 48 hours. Still no email. It's pretty ridiculous.

All my vendors are great and responsive, except my DJ. He finally told me we should set up a meeting and when I told him available dates I never heard back. I don't care if we meet I would think he can send me a form I can fill out with my songs but I do find it frustrating. Maybe it's a DJ thing??

@ Muffin I've been thinking of doing the iPod route, but I do not know any songs. And I def want people to dance. My family loves to dance.

Jessica, my DJ always responds within 24 hours so I don't think its a DJ thing. I do think it's bad business because if they aren't responsive before your event, what's to say that they won't be reliable the day of the event.

OldFashionedBride, I had considered just using an iPod but decided I wanted someone to emcee the event and queue up the music when needed.

Find a new DJ. My DJ was in the midst of being "very busy" and still answered my email in 14 minutes.

All the DJ's I've emailed have been very quick to respond. Our venue coordinator not so much. It is frustrating having to send so many reminder emails, but I love the venue and we'll be doing most of the work anyway (not all inclusive).

It is not just DJ's. I have emailed several photographers and videographers also, days go by and no response. If you don't respond I just move on. It is seriously some well known local companies too. Next......

The one dj that is very responsive is about twice my dj budget. Go figure.

My DJ has been extremely helpful and responsive since day one. I usually hear back within a couple of hours.. which helps since I am planning from 4 hours away. If they dont respond, that is bad business. I have even had some vendors recommend me to others if they were not available on my date, or if there was a budget issue. I would definitely keep looking until I found someone that worked. I was going to do IPod too at first, but I didnt want to have to think about the music. I wanted to jusy show up and shake my tail feather

The trouble is that there are a lot of vendors out there that do their profession as a side business. All of your wedding vendors should be extremely responsive throughout the process, from initial contact, to contract, to planning, right up to the big day. If they are not, question their professionalism and dedication.

Maybe they are a great DJ or photographer or what have you, but it doesn't mean they should be in the wedding business. They could just be in meetings or out-of-touch for a few hours, but they should get back to you at least the first thing the next business day, if not sooner.

That is the number one compliment I receive from new brides and grooms right off the bat: "Wow, you actually answered your phone/answered my email/text" etc. It is basic Customer Service 101.

I feel bad if I don't respond to an email within minutes, let alone hours. I was in Hawaii on vacation last month and answered emails and even spoke to several clients and would-be clients while I was there. In todays connected world I wouldn't expect anything less, especially with wedding season hitting full stride about now.

Good luck and congrats to all of you soon-to-be-newlyweds out there!

I don't care if it's the same day. I realize people have lives, even those whose sole business is DJ, caterer, etc. Personally, I'd give it 48-72 hours. If you haven't heard from any vendor within that time, just move on. Both DJs we initially contacted via email for quotes got back to us within the day and one even followed up with a phone call to set up the meeting.

98% of the people/companies I emailed NEVER EMAILED ME BACK. even after multiple emails. Caterers, DJs, venues, photographers, some didn't even return multiple phone calls or respond to multiple messages left with the person answering phones. Once I started contacting the small businesses owners is when I finally got somewhere. Oddly enough the places I emailed for our honeymoon in Ireland all emailed me back within 24 hours.

Same here Megan. I really want to stick to private owned business anyways. Help the local little man is my thing. I got my dress from a shop that has business 50+ years and my venue is a local family owned place. Same thing with photographer. If you don't call me back or email within say 4 days I move on.

My DJ was the most responsive of all my vendors (within minutes, every single email I've sent and always answers his phone). I did have this problem with photographers, though (up until the one I have booked - he's great!). Probably the first 8-10 photographers I contacted were completely unprofessional in terms of response time or responding at all.

Honestly, anyone who didn't respond to me within a reasonable time was automatically taken out of the running. If I'm spending this much money, I want to know that you will answer when I call/email/want to meet.

It depends on the DJ; a pro will respond in 24 hours (except on weekends). A fly by night will not. Pretty easy screening device....
